It also had good characters, a good story, and plenty of alternative realities None of which make it steampunk per se...

Just a thought but would Hugo Count as Steampunk?
Set in 1930s Paris, an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.

A friend of mine introduced me to a very obscure gem of 1970s British TV - a show called Lukes Kingdom, starring Oliver Tobias as Luke Firbeck who's family travel to Australia in the 1830s and follows them as they settle there - not so much Steampunk but a massive dose of Victoriana and a fascinating look at this bit of history Its pretty dark for the time it was made too, and if ever there was a more villainous "hero" than Luke Firbeck I'd like to know... http://www.britishdrama.org.uk/lukeskingdom.html

I loved Lukes Kingdom, actually saw it back when it was broadcast. I was quite a big Oliver Tobias fan around that time as I recall, mainly because of the series Arthur Of The Britons which was rather more youth orientated and aired a few years earlier. I would say though, Lukes Kingdom was probably averagely dark for that time, there were some damn strange things on TV in the 70's.

Did anyone see the 1995/96 series 'Legend' starring Richard Dean Anderson and John De Lancie driving around the old west in a steam powered car? It ran for only 12 episodes and has not had an (official) release on DVD. All the episodes appear to be on YouTube.

Got a while to wait on this but Leonardo Di Cappuchino and his production company are going to be making (yet another) version of H.G. Wells' 'The Island of Dr Moreau'..making it the seventh..no, eighth version to be filmed since it's original film adaptation, a twenty minute two reel silent in 1913 (L'Ile d'Epouvante and Isle d'epouvante) renamed 'Island of Terror' for it's US release..

I fell for that one; spent nearly a whole six minutes looking for it before I found this article about the artist who made the poster.

Does a good Spaghetti Western fall into the Steampunk category ?
Terence Hill & Bud Spencer made some excellent movies in the 60s and early 70s such as the trinity series. The "dollars" series with Clint Eastwood were good
There were some great black n white horror movies from the 30s- 50s set in the humid jungles, outer space and under water. White Zombie series, Island of Lost souls, The invisible Ray. Dr Phibes series, Creature from the Black lagoon. Monster from the Ocean floor, Flash Gordon, Barbarella
and many many more.
Nothing beats a rudimentary mechanical giant deep sea or space monster.

I just found the 'Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec,' and enjoyed it very much. I never got to see the Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec (2010), and I wish I had. I can probably get my hands on the comics a lot more easily though.

Adele Blanc Sec-- worth watching more than once for the animation of the mummies alone. Only Adele could take a bath with such style. I wish there would be a sequel; I want to know what happens on her voyage on the Titanic!
I also wondered immediately after watching the film if there would be a sequel. I imagine she survives the voyage to the United States and then the story ends up in South America with her discovering some extraordinary remnants of the Inca Empire. Crossing my fingers!

I have just finished reading all 22 pages of this thread and was a bit surprised that Somewhere in Time was not referenced - rightly or wrongly. it was a rather good film, and Jane Seymour (sp?) was quite fetching, as always, plus the sound track is one of my two favourites in the Sci Fi/fantasy genre (the other being Blade Runner). The scenes at the Hotel del Coronado near San Diego CA were quite picturesque as well.
BTW, The movie was based on a novel titled Bid Time Return.

Unfortunately I have never read the book. I suppose it's a lot to expect from Hollyweird, but I have to wonder how faithful they were to the book.
One of the things I liked about the movie was how the scenes in the past were shot a bit "softer" then the modern footage. A different type of film perhaps?

Please tell me that there is an English version someplace. I'm watching on Netflix, and reading the English subtitles causes me to miss seeing some of the video. I need to learn French, but need a tudor. All the books I find on learning French are in ....Yep, French. La Sky Pirate.

At the end, with her big hat on, I thought "She looks like Rose at the begining of Titanic". I loved the Mummy Making Machine!
