Has anyone yet mentioned "High Road to China" ? I wouldn't think it SP, but an enjoyable romp nevertheless.

Surely the honor has to go to the Prestige? Sorry if someone already mentioned it also, Franklyn, the 2008 brit film and I've always considered the Hellboy movies a little steampunk, or maybe dieselpunk. Anyone else also think some of the set dressings in Harry Potter - the clocks for instance?

I actually enjoyed Young Einstein. I have not watched it since it was first released over twenty years ago. I was thinking that it was going to be very cheesy and childish. Which it was but in a most entertaining kind of way

Not Steampunk, but simply a farcical Edwardian/Merchant Ivory style parody that still makes me chortle like a schoolboy. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120210/

Whoops, double posting yet again. Still this came up on Facebook, I've not heard of it before but it looks intriguing.
Edit: I stand corrected, Mr Smaggers posted it in the other film thread a while ago (I wish there could be only one) , and as I appear to have replied I must've heard of it. Obviously this damnable premature senility kicked in and I totally forgot. Still it looks good anyway.

Interesting list and viewpoints as befits our diverse online community. Its given me something to chase down, some of these titles, at the video shop.
Someone mentioned Equilibrium, and I had to check it out to check it out, so to speak. How in the nine planes of hell is THAT Steampunk? A few airships at the end, thrown in for fun I'm sure. Airships do NOT a Steampunk movie make. Otherwise we'd all adore "The Hindenburg" with George C Scott.
Equilibrium is near future tech, not retro tech. And if you want a very short synopsis of the plot - its Fahrenheit 451, with guns. Lots of guns. So sorry, my vote is a big NO to it. The revolver and a single bullet to whoever suggested that one.

I'm of the mind to agree here. Although I enjoy the movie (it's a part of my collection in fact), I see it much more as a variation of Cyberpunk rather than Steampunk. While both genres have things in common, it's obvious that they're much different things. Thoughts?

Sucker punch.
Has anyone said sucker punch? Someone needs to say sucker punch. Ok, I'll say sucker punch. Sucker Punch.
Odd little film and not all Steampunk but the Parts that were, were. And it's got hot girls with big guns. I said GUNS. What's not to love?

If it has already been mentioned (and after 21 pages of this thread I think that plausible) I apologise.... The Great Race definitely, definitely has a certain steampunk flair about it...

I'm out of steamy movies right now I'm afraid, but speaking of Sucker Punch (I think you'll find it has been mentioned)
There, I knew it. Someone always beats me to the punch! Yes, I set that one up. It had to be done. Sorry. Doc. Reality is overrated.

"Taichi" Movie Trailer (HD) "太極"预告片Edit: I stand corrected, Mr Smaggers posted it in the other film thread a while ago (I wish there could be only one) , and as I appear to have replied I must've heard of it. Obviously this damnable premature senility kicked in and I totally forgot. Still it looks good anyway. Dammit, that thing's in Chinese... It's odd that I'm the one complaining, since it appears I'm one of the only people here who is actually a Chinese. Still, I have a hard time speaking that language... Understanding it... ehh, abit better. But still... There are loads of movie posters here for it... Might have to check it out.

Notice the difference in headline. The other one is for steampunk films, this one is for the top steampunk films. As opposed to anything that features a guy in a tophat.

Oh yeah I've read the thread title alright, but after seeing everything from Mad Max and Tank Girl to Brazil and Dark City suggested on the very first page, kinda figured that was a lost cause pretty early on. Anyway, this (which I believe has not been mentioned) actually is set in C19th Victorian London, does feature slightly fantastical technology and is currently available to watch in its entirety on Youtube.

Please do excuse me for promoting my country again as someone else (I think Virlhelm) has already said it, Cronos, even though not Victorian, is an excellent film by Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, also highly recommended). Here you have some, but quite frankly, the trailer does not do it justice. Enjoy! http://youtu.be/wy1CSVv_i7cMy apologies, I still do not know how to embed video here

From what I can tell the Co-writer/Producer of things like Into Darkness, Alex Kurtzman is attached as producer, dunno if he'll be writing though. Seeing as Into Darkness was flat out amazing to me, I don't know if this will balance out well. I am dubious of Cruise as Van Helsing though.
