I know its not really steampunky but i ahve to say teh movie " the fall" has that old movie feel ...plus i really dig the masked bandits getup :p   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iO0LYcCoeJY

and has anyone mentioned the clockwork gate in labrynth?

I watched this a couple of days ago and was totaly transfixed. What a fabulously beautiful piece of cinema.Thoroughly beautiful to watch. One cannot help but be awestruck by the cinematography and colour work it is outrageously good in imagination and realisation. I loved it - thank you so much for pointing it out.

He he. No doubt that I will end up organising a trip to see it down here in Birmingham.

Make it a weekend and I'll endeavour to attend....

Just realised I've inadvertently created a bit of poetry there...

I'll try.

In a similar vein is the track "My Favourite Things" by Big Brovaz.... quite a poor song but some rather nice neo-victorian fairground imagery.

First one to mention the Sean Connery geriatric ego trip "League of Extraodinary Gentlemen" {NOT to be confused with the graphic novels} will be given a revolver with one bullet & expected to do the decent thing.

Ah the joys of free will and the ability to make up one's own mind about a film, I am quite happy to say I don't dislike this film, in fact I quite like a Sunday afternnoon snuggling on the old sofa watch this with the missus.  Smiley

I'm with ya! I thought this one was a ton of fun and the nautilis looked amazing!

I was always out-off watching The City of Lost Children as I heard lots of bad feedback, but I might have to check it out now.

I was watching Firefly last night...I know I know, not really a movie as such...but the Western Steampunk/Space Pirate theme is rife, especially twinned with the Oriental tones...spiffing!

I'd like my fellow Steampunks to suggest & review {and so claim for the genre] the best Steampunk [without them knowing it] movies: First off, The George Pal "The Time Machine" with its whirlygig delight of Victorain Engineering. I picked up the DVD in HMV for £3!!! First one to mention the Sean Connery geriatric ego trip "League of Extraodinary Gentlemen" {NOT to be confused with the graphic novels} will be given a revolver with one bullet & expected to do the decent thing. I would also claim the Sam Neill filim "The Event Horizon" as an unclaimed Steampunk classic. But I'll debate that.

ok how about perfect creature? more deisel then steam but a great fun movie!

I confess to not reading all of the replies to this list but I think The City of Ember belongs.
There are some wonderful machines to help them with their lives.
It is primarily a kid's movie but it fits. Grin

Good Day my fellow would be Chrononauts,

If no one else has mentioned it, I'd like to take this opportunity to put in a bid for a film called 'Perfect Creature' it has a good (slightly late) steampunk feel and a world with a religion based on the rule of vampires. Can anyone ask for more?

Meanwhile City is actually a location within the Franklyn movie.

U,K. TV, BBC 1, tonight at 11.45. They're showing 'Perfect Creature' the nominally Steampunk-ish vampire movie. It's definitely worth a look.

Didnt see it browsing the thread, but what about the film The Prestige with Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale? Besides being victorian its oh so steamy, with DAVID BOWIE playing Tesla!! Luved it.

Another good mention would be The Road to Wellville. This hillarious romp stars Mathew Broderick, Anthony Hopkins, Dana Carvey and John Cusack. Its certainly victorian, and Dr. Kellog's wacky inventions make it steamy, in my opinion.

Also, how about the Anime Il Porco Rosso? A bit on the Diesel side but...

not really steampunk but early victorian "the first great train robbery" with sean connery and donald sutherland. Good movie to see an early steamengine in and carriage style cars.

Missed last night's showing but it'll be on again in the next week or so. They rotate these movies quite regularly.

I saw it the other day when we were all sent home early from work after a power cut... the car park was toal gridlock so we headed to a local pub with sky sports news on in every booth, but lo and behold they hadn't disabled the channel selectors  Roll Eyes

Only got to a watch a little bit though as my companions felt it was a bit 'childish'  Embarrassed

Still i even remember the dubbed version showed on TV in the 80's once or twice... took me years to track it down. Though it's still amazing t think it came out around the same time as lunatic Fist of the North Star...
