Please, do enlighten me Smiley If you are or know such a collector, I would love to know more - I have expensive hobbies Wink

OK this one is in the UK:

http://www.thebigmeet.org/

and a bit more international:

http://www.lanternnet.com/links.htm

If you can find any identifying marks etc. let me know I post on a few mining archeology forums and there may be folk there who can help identify your lamp and it possible value (provided you've not already done so yourself)

(edited to include last paragraph)

Ah OK, mining lamp collecting is fairly niche.

Go ahead and hack it if that's what you intended.

If you don't mind - how much did you pay for the lamp in the first instance?

This one is on Ebay Belgium: http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/lampe-de-mineur-/160787020381?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_23&hash=item256fa73a5d
A good mining lamp goes from 50,- euro and up. Only I don't know if yours  a real one. In mining areas like Limburg (B/NL) they used to sell copies
as souvenirs or memorabilia. All depends on how heavy/solid it is made. If you think it could survive a mine explosion its probably real. I wouldn't slaughter a real one.

It weighs quite a lot, so if it is a replica, it is a very solid one. I know a lot of Brass Goggles members balk upon slaughtering real items, but I must admit I have no such qualms Wink

That being said, it would amuse me if I were to sell it for more than I bought it Wink

"Destroying is creating" is my motto. But if I can make money to buy more junk, the choice is easy. (Btw. I sell at the antique market in Tongeren(Limburg) on regular basis.)

One of the gentlemen behind the website linked earlier identified it as a replica. Not that I needed it, but now I have even more incencitive to alter it Wink

A replica eh? - well in that case "Have at it" - my original concern was that you'd acquired an original item and hacking that apart would have been IMO sacrilege!

Oh, my goodness! I went thrift store shopping today, and found some gems!

Here are some pressure gauges that were bagged together, priced $10, but 1/2 off today! I had to buy them, even though I don't have any immediate plans for them. I mean, $.62 apiece?! Some are fairly new, and not too exciting, but a couple have a bit of charm....

Here is something that, again, I have no plans for,(yet), but had to buy! My daughter and I just know that there has got to be something spiffy to do with these hands! They were $1.49, and we got two. They were called bud vases, come on! They're about 2/3 life size. They hold a small test tube, and are meant to hang on the wall. Any ideas, anyone?

Those are awesome!
Fill them with these!
Or send them to me so I can do the same?  Wink

I was visiting my uncle yesterday working on my vacuum forming machine when my cousin stops in and hands me these.  They are left handed and he said he thinks he can get me a right handed set too.  Tongue

My cousin knows me too well.

Picked up a few items this weekend.  Particulary like the "Steam Condensing" canvas bag and the miners lamp.  The porcelian socket and lamp cord were being thrown out at the hotel I was staying at.  Could have had hundreds, but timing was tight and little room in my suitcase.
