Whoa... Thanks for that tip, Will!
Ah - sorry, Kabar, we were just passing through western Virginia - going up 81 on our way to Connecticut. Had to stop off and spend some time stretching our legs, so we wandered around for a little bit in a little place in Harrisonburg - and got lucky.
Unfortunately, R'lyeh and ether are both impossible combos; even "brass" won't work.
Cheers!
Chas.

A couple weeks late. I haven't done shots of it alone yet, but here is a shot of my 1904 Victrola Talking Machine from a photo shoot the other day. Got it very cheap and its guts have been restored. A friend of mine wanted to free up counter space, so he slashed the price A LOT.

Does the head swing back on a hinge? As it sounds like a "cocktail stick holder".

Out of curiosity, does the skull do the "talking"?

My friend found this at a charity shop and gave it to me as a Christmas present: It is a size 8 - it fits, but only just. Breathing is overrated anyway! We're going to alter it and it will be a lovely victorian ballgown! Best Christmas present ever!!!

Well, let's see... a large brass telescope (not really antique) on a tripod. Mine needs polishing, a bit. Okay, quite a lot. A Victorian shotshell reloading tool, with loading block and adjustable shot/powder scoop. And today, at an auction, an 1893 Turkish Mauser, and I need to find a holster, and I should probably make some new grips for it. Cheers! Chas.

Great xmas week. Got a fog horn from my brother. A steam whistle from my uncle. A horn and iron with box, and phone box from my folks. Fog horn works. Got steam whistle to work temporarily with air. Will be modifying it to work. The box for the iron is perfect for another clock/time machine and the wood phone box will be either the base for a clock or a lamp.

Everybody is really into antiques so they are always going to flea markets, auctions, etc. I have them trained to look for certain items for me. Much better getting this kind of stuff than junk from Walmart for xmas.

Got lucky while wandering through a Salvation Army store today. I'm now the proud owner of a tweed waistcoat and a tan canvas vest. Someone must have cleaned out a closet at the end of the year for a tax write-off, because there were others in my size as well. Just nothing I could use in my wardrobe.
I've been hunting a tweed waistcoat for a while. To have landed one for under $3.00 is a nice little surprise. The canvas one is a decent everyday vest. Nothing fancy, but will blend well with lots of items in my closet. Just over $6 for the pair.

OMG - you get a tax write off for clearing out your clothes? How does that work? *sits back stunned*

For sure. I admit my brother in law does know me well enough to buy me a lovely antique tobaco tin adorned with a Union Jack for Christmas. And my father in law did give me a box of old laboratory glass he saved from the hospital where he works. And my brother did give me an antique cast iron book press that works a treat. So -actually, I am doing okay from my folks.

There you go. Family can be very helpful. Even if they think you're a little nuts for earning a living as an artist.

More clobber: a tweed three-piece: Jacket and waistcoat a good loose fit (it was mislabeled as an XL, and the trousers as a 36" waist), trousers the same but about 4" too long! The original owner must have been a GIANT! Good quality, the jacket cuff buttons are functional (classy!), and the waistcoat has a completely pointless bottom button, if you do it up, it doesn't sit flat (double classy!). And also found a pair of huntin' breeks/plus fours, again wrongly labeled as a 38" waist, closer to a 34", which is wearable with braces:

Perfect clobber for the annual Melbourne 'tweed ride'.

More clobber: a tweed three-piece: ... You lucky thing! Another charity shop find? I think you have a better class of charity shop in your neck of the woods. All I ever seem to find around here is shell suits and baseball caps. And... last weekend was the first car boot sales of 2012: Lordy! Poor turn-out and pickings were slim to non-existent. All I got was a 2½" long cap pistol.

Again with the lovely tweed suits straight off the second hand rail!! Rub my face in it why don't you!...Not literally, of course..I'm not THAT kinky! I've been after a nice tweed suit for ages but they simply do not have tweed suits in the charity shops round here and even if they did they never come in my size! This is the third, wonderful, tweed suit you've picked straight off the rack in about three months. Where do you find these shops?? All my charity shops are full of racks of 2nd hand hoodies and shell suits. The original owner must have been a GIANT! Pity he doesn't live round here then! Mind you..if the trousers were mislabelled as a 36" and are too big for you and the plus fours need braces with a 34" waist the guy sounds less of a 'giant' and more of a 'beanpole'! Another nice find..you lucky, lucky b4st4rd..
