... Well - looks like I've got a new (old) radio! You must have been excited, you are shaking so much the picture is all out of focus! I'm sorry, it WAS a dark basement and I wasn't really equipped for taking photos - I'm glad my mobile has a camera... Also I have no idea about the details, I saw the radio once and I'll see it again next year when it arrives with the rest of my stuff...

Gentlemen, and Ladies, I'm not computer savy enough to upload photos, but have some (I hope you'll agree) fun pieces I've built from found objects. Rayguns and things you've never imagined before. Imagine Tesla meets Bell, meets Faraday, meets Warehouse 13. Comments are welcomed. See them at: www.coreywolfe.com. All my parts were found at a variety of sales. Just scroll down below the artwork.

Great stuff! Nicely finished, as well, with a good sense of balance... well, you are an artist, right? But you shouldn't waste this here - not that it is really a waste, but... You could put this into Metaphysical, to share the aesthetics, or perhaps into Tactile, if you wish to discuss the making of these items To link an image in here, simply take the actual URL of the image, usually found by right clicking and "view image". It will most likely end in .jpg or .gif or similar, such as http://www.coreywolfe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Clockface.jpgThen take that entire URL, and put an open square bracket [ followed by img, followed by the close square bracket in front of the URL, with no spaces. At the end, the same arrangement with a slash / before the image. Thus: Also, pasting it in, then highlighting it and then clicking the little "insert image" will do all the brackety things for you. Best of luck Chas.

Picked this up recently for a song (See what I did there?) Totally useless as a musical instrument. Pads knackered, springs gone, rubbish quality in the first place and you may have noticed that the top bit is missing. However, look at all those bits of nicely shaped metal as the components of something else and the thing takes on a certain charm. Not to mention the fun to be had in dismantling the thing.

Thanks to another thread and a link to an electronics museum I have identified a crystal I got last summer by accident....... I was at an auction which was now in it's 5th hour..... many people by this point had left and only us stalwart diehards were left an olive green metal foot locker came up for bid.... it had stuff in it but the key had gone missing....... Well 25 dollars later it was mine.....back at the shop I took some thick steel wire and twisted me a key... I had it open with little trouble....... So what treasures were in side? an old WWII army offices visored hat missing visor.... an original Civil War un-issued infantryman leather belt a cowboy era cartridge belt a bunch of WWII patches and an odd black box with dials on each side and terminals on the top........ the link to the electronics museum gave me the answer to this one..... http://www.sparkmuseum.com/CRYSTAL1.HTM fourth row down center A 1922 Federal Jr. crystal radio...... So not a bad haul for 25.00.......

I'm not sure if others will find this useful or not, but figured I'd share. Goodwill has an online presence where you can find some pretty good deals. Here's a link to some vintage women's lace-up shoes and a bonnet. Other deals can be found in men's clothing and accessories as well. Yeah, its an auction, but there's still good deals to be found.

Kabar - that crystal set - which one? D'Oh! I have to start reading-for-comprehension betterer... VERY nice! There are some fancy gadgets on that page, I have to say... I really like the Martian Yes, please, pics - or at least a description - that CW belt, Union, I imagine... What sort of buckle? But the cartridge belt might be interesting to some serious collectors - if it is a rare or prized maker, for instance, in good shape it could be worth something to a collector or to a museum... but you probably already knew that. You got quite a haul for your 25 bucks. Can I go with you next time? Cheers! Chas.

I'll try for some photo's tonight, and yes if your ever down to Virginia Beach and they are holding one of these auctions I'd be glad to have some company.... just try not to bid on the same stuff.....

found this a while ago... How did you miss it hanging up there on the ceiling? OK, slightly mixed bag here... I have had a cracking bit of luck in the last week at the local charity shops - picked up (yet another) a slightly rough looking oak veneer bureau (a little work and it will be fine...), a bunch of replica jailer's keys (hard to tell they are replicas!), wardrobe suitcase (roughly 1920's / 30's), a modern wine drinking set in a box (stoppers, cork screws, thermometer etc), a small framed "oil on board" painting (actually it's acrylic paint, but very nicely painted though), 4 prints / lithographs of mostly medium large sizes, and finally - a framed map of Northumberland (my local area in the UK) which is roughly a little bigger than 'A3' page size. All for around £50, which is not too bad! The map is something different though, I initially thought it was a cheap print (got it anyway 'cos it was only £2, and quite nice), then looked closely when I got home. It *seems* to be a real hand coloured copper print from C.1695 - BUT while I'm confident it IS hand-painted, I strongly suspect that it is actually a fake (as in made to cheat someone that it's genuine 300+ years old!) as the paper doesn't look *quite* right, and the map is in unusually excellent condition for it's age. But the biggest issue is that it would have originally been inside a book (Camden's Britannia, 1695 - I looked it up), and my map does NOT have a centre crease where it would have been folded...and it should! A little research has proved that the only reproductions available are uncoloured and have a plastic like shine (and date to the 1970's), or are modern photographic prints. So it's NOT simply a reproduction! I have a feeling someone may have been conned out of a lump of money, if genuine, in it's current state it would be worth between £150 to £300. I do like it though, and it's a little unusual as it's the ONLY fake that I have been able to find on the internet (and I've done a lot of digging), though I'm sure there are plenty out there! So for £2 I have nice little talking point, and it looks great on my wall. Also during my research, I found out that an original map hangs in one of the houses in Downing Street (where the UK Prime Minister lives once elected), here is a link to the image (there is a zoom feature, good detail): http://www.gac.culture.gov.uk/work.aspx?obj=17451SS

I was at my friend's shop yesterday and made the remark that I'd love to get a Victrola. He said, "really?" Apparently the Victrola Talking Machine from about 1908 he has had sitting on his counter has been for sale for months. I never thought to ask because he collects those kinds of things. It works, its only problem is that the lid's latch doesn't work. He needed the space so he cut me a good deal on it. And because I splurged on myself I also bought my girlfriend a lovely necklace and earrings, also from his shop.

Very nice. Sometimes it is worth asking about such things. I bought a Victrola-style case - someone else had gutted it, but it fits with the quarter-sawn oak flooring here at the Lair; with what they had done, I managed to fit a bass driver into the lower section, with the wiring concealed and the satellite speakers hidden in the corners of the room. It looks something like this one: Now I need to figure out what to put in as a display in the upper section. I have a tube-style crystal radio that would cover the hole, but I would have to block the lid open, as the lid would crush it if closed. I am also waiting on a brass gramophone horn, something like this one: Which I got for a song (pardon the pun) on line. Mine has a bit of floral stuff around the rim of the horn. It is probably a reproduction - inexpensive even for that - but at least the pictures look very nice. I am not sure how I will tie that in to the rest of it. Siliconous - keep us posted on the map. Cheers! Chas.

(Sigh) most of my flea market finds are now stock for the shop, so I don't put photos up here. But - someone at work heard I was into old motorcycles so they gave me this rather heavy suitcase... ... there are around 80 magazines dating from 1938 to 1965, mostly from the 50's and mostly British. Lovely - an instant collection.

Great find, Uncle! But it really makes me wish I could have met the man who collected them all. If those have gone to the flea market, I wonder if he had a stash of old iron somewhere as well... just think... ya go and talk to his widow, and she tells you all the rest of it is going into the skip next week, but if you want to drag it off, that's fine... You go 'round the back, and in the shed, under a tarp... Naaaah, it couldn't ever happen. Or could it? Cheers! Chas.

I believe he did own a Vincent, a Black Shadow- a lot of the magazines are on Vincents and there are pencilled notes in the margins...

My first posting here in Flea market finds! Although, this was found last year(2010) at a second hand store here in the semi-sunny Great Northwest, I've not found it's like again. It was an electric wall light, and could still be one again, since I only modified it slightly from it's original design. But now it is a Steampunk-style table lantern. It measures 10.5 inches tall and is glass and brass. Please, bear with me if the picture does not show. I'm still working out the bugs on posting images in forums, since it has literally been years since I have practiced URL code. Thank you for looking! ~DD/Levi P. Darkside
