UM! Groomporter!!!
What is inside those boxes?!!! Especially the one on the left - are there any dividers, any inserts?
You may have found something.... wonderful. Please don't cut on them, at least not yet!!!
Cheers!
Chas.

They're both plain/bare on the insides. One's exterior about 3.5" deep by 15" wide, the other's around 5.5" by 12". I was thinking they would be perfect to clean up and fill with a selection of the games we make http://historicgames.com as well as a game board painted on the lid. Also tempting to turn the thin one into a custom case to hold my flutes, penny whistles music and related bits, but the old violin case I'm currently using is smaller and more convenient to carry around.

Congratulations, Kieranfoy.
Groomporter - sorry for Panic Mode Alpha there. The one I found labeled as "equipments case" (sic) I took home with me, and found that my Model 1894 lever-action fit the padded supports precisely. The rest of the lining is gone, so I am trying to figure out what can go into which compartment. It was an original antique rifle case, yes.
Your plan sounds just great.
Cheers!
Chas.

I was very pleased to find this oil painting, as I have been reading the Patrick O'Brian Master and Commander series and wanted an image of a sailing ship. This was at a flea market for $15. Later, a friend who works at a museum told me it is old...19th century, and depicts the clipper Ariel winning the Great Tea Race of 1865.

Charity shop finds today were: (sorry no pics - the card reader for my camera I lent out, has not been returned yet ) A small side cabinet with fake book spine covers on door and draw. A tall thin CD storage cabinet with fake book spines on door. Cost: £10 for both. Book spines are fairly realistic, I may spice them up with a few interesting book titles... MY googled-fu failed, but they look something like this: Also found: 25 Dr Who Audio adventure CDs (OK so not steampunk, but I just had to share ) cost: £17 The CDs were a bit of a mixed job lot, but there are a fair number from each series. Only one of them I've heard before on radio. **edit** Turns out these CDs have never been opened or used, there is not a trace of use or fingerprints on any of them. Heh, 25 brand new Big Finish productions DR who audio CDs for £17 - bargain! SS

My little find this week: A very little brass pressure gauge (one inch diameter) with great patina and a threaded mount on the back (not on the bottom edge). Perfect inspiring piece for another ray gun build.

Nice gauge, indeed. I didn't have such good fortune - 3 pairs of dark red woolly socks, & a nice A3 Staedtler drawing board. All up, $30.

Got this second-hand from a friend who picked it up for a few bucks. I really wish I had some skills at gun modding. It has a nice weight, and makes a hefty *Ka-chunk!* when you cock and fire it. Don't feel bad. At least your toes will stay toasty come Winter.

Is that an antique flintlock? If it is, I'm sure you're not to suspose to fire "it dry" (and I'm very possibly wrong on that account. )

S'ok - raining here now & snowing a bit further up the road. I prefer the winter to summer anyway. After all, to keep warm you can always put something else on, whereas in summer you can only take so much off to keep cool!!
Nice pistol, by the way.

Nice! I picked up a matching pair off my mate who found them at a car boot sale about two years ago, not quite as nice as that one though - a bit more "piratey" with plain carved wood handles. I have an unfinished project with them - steampunk laser tag dueling pistols! Also plan to adapt them for use as a TV-B-Gone, so they will serve a dual purpose. I have just about everything I need, just never got round to actually populating the circuit boards after my mate etched them up... Must get around to that one! SS
