Just wondering who else is going to be there.  I know I shall be attending with a friend or two, and (s)Aint Chimo.  And if I'm not mistaken Fraulein Flieger and Mr. Greyshades shall also be there.  Anyone else?

Yes, you can count on Mr. Greyshade and myself to be there. We will be bringing along Anachronist and Penny Dreadful from San Diego with us. We are all looking forward to this weekend! Seems us San Diego folks have been finding more things to do in L. A of late than down here. Hmmm, perhaps it's time to organize a little something down this way...
Sprocket - we'd love to celebrate your birthday with you!

I shall be there, coming down from sacramento, with lady friend in tow..
i hear Kato (Sgt Kato to you Dr. Steel fans) shall be attending as well.
been working on my first really steampunk outfit for just this occasion.
minor question, if anyone coming has plans as to where to stay, and/or sharing a hotel (or rooms, if on a budget such as we shall be)

cirque de solei-esque ribbon/rope dancer shall be performing as well...

My fiance and I will be flying in from Iowa to see this show. We were planning on taking a trip to Saloncon to see them, but decided this show sounded more fun (and doesn't require us to take vacation time off).

Are there any must-see places we should visit while we're in the LA area?

I'm going to try reserving tablespace for 6-8 people, may try to put out a little "brass goggles" sign, so you know it's us Smiley

it seems reserving a table is a bit difficult. they are booked 2 hours before and after 8:30pm and abney park goes on at 9.

Does this mean there's little hope of being able to eat there before the show?

Ok here's the skiny:

they aren't taking table reservations that night because of abney park, durring "big events" they don't do their  table reservation normal policy.

They have a full menu for eating and a several full bars for drinking, so yes, you'll be fed if you've brought your green.

There is no cover for the show or anything right? We can just show up and have fun?

*Edit*
After visiting the Edison's website I find that there will be a $25 charge at the door, $20 if ordered before hand. This may be prohibitive to myself and or my friends attending. Honestly I'm not a huge Abney Park fan but was really looking forward to finally getting out to meet a lot of you and actually get to the Edison. We shall see when sunday rolls around how I feel about it.

Just a word of warning for those of us with less than upscale steampunk tastes. The Edison has a dress code which seems to rely on a certain sense of what they want the club to feel like. Here's a copy of what the website has to say about their dress code:

The Edison is dedicated to a resurgance of an old world style and senso of romance that nce dominated downtown Los Angeles; innovative, sophisticated and cultivated.

We strive for an upscale environment where style sits and pleasure sips, comfortably surrounded by ladies and gentlemen who appreciate the beauty and complexity that lurk in the deatails. Therefore, attire that exudes a sense of elegance and fasion is required for entry.

We ask that you please refreain from wearing the following: althletic wear of any kind (shorts, jersies, hoodies, ball caps), flip flops, sandals or athletic shoes, t-shirts of short or long sleeves, collarless shirts or torn baggy jeans.

We will always strive to more quickly accommodate those who achieve the highest understanding of our dress code.

We thank you for allowing us to make The Edison experience a legendary one for you.

It seems that my typical postapocolyptic/adventuring wear may be out.

Actually, we've found they respond quite favorably to our "adventurer" wear. We've worn neo-Victorian, silly hats, big ol' boots, etc. and been given a welcome reception at the door and from our servers. I'm sure they fully expect all kinds of steamy apocolyptic adventure gear this weekend.
I think their dress code is to give fair warning to those who would show up in t-shirts, jerseys, Nikes, etc. Basically, letting the average knucklehead know that if you want to come in, you have to dress like an adult and not act like an ass. This dress code is becoming more popular here in San Diego (thank god), mostly because you do actually have to explain to average Joes here that a new Chargers' jersey is not actually considered "dressing up".

One of our group may not be able to attend, so it seems we have an extra ticket at the $20 rate, rather than the $25 tomorrow. Anyone care to join us? Email us asap so we can arrange to meet.  Smiley

Steam yourself out! They want you too. Trust me. The management wanted Abney Park to play as one of there first major live acts because they fit the aesthetic of the bar so much. Abney Park dress like the motley crew of a pirate ship! The Edison itself is... Well its steampunk. Its about velvet draped over pig iron, old boilers with leather upholstered seats inside. Victorian elegance and Victorian industry thrown together in a mad post-modern mix. If you look like more old boiler and I look more velvet then it will balance out. The dress code is to keep out the the frat boy morons who will just look at it all and say "dude they put a bar in basement full of junk wtf? Where's the TV with the game on it?"

Even if I didn't like Abney Park's music I would go to this show. Robert and company are some of the most sincere participants in the steampunk movement I have had the pleasure of meeting. They have traveled a thousand miles to put on a beautiful spectacle. Their expenses are enormous. You should support them.

Mr. Greyshade,
Indeed I have decided to attend. I do love the effort AP puts into their aesthetic and really do look forward to the chance to meet the other forum goers. Mostly I had to convince myself that the cost was worth it, but unlike other shows this is one where the whole venue and attendees will be worth seeing and experiencing, and I'm more than happy to attend when I think of it that way.

Have plans been made for gathering before hand? Is anyone planning on getting dinner and or drinks there before the show?

I, myself will be showing up promptly at 6pm when the club opens, if only to snag-and-camp (tm)  a table for us.  I went with alexander on a thursday and finding seating was quite difficult for a party of 4.  I know greyshade, penny, and alexander on sight, the rest of you...  hmm...     if you see a tall man with mutton chops, and a shorter stocky fellow wearing a tan shirt, khaki pants, if I can find one in the next... ooh... hour and a half,  a waistcoat, that will be DJ and myself.  shame we don't have a sign...

Sprocket - thanks for your snag-and-camp tm technique! Penny will not be joining us this eve. We will be picking up Alex at 5 pm and heading up that way asap. I expect to be there 8-ish? Depends on that damned traffic of course.
I hope to see everyone this evening!

I will be there around 8oclock with up to 2 others as well. If somehow someone can save space for all of us that would be awesome, otherwise I'm sure we can just sort of congregate and meet when we get the chance!

I just want to say how much freaking fun I had tonight. Seeing Abney Park live completely changed my mind about them. Not to mention that the Edison is the GREATEST place for that show to have been held. I'm still giddy over how great the whole evening turned out to be!
