I've recently developed a preference for just about anything that comes out of the Brooklyn Brewery, especially their lager and their Brown Ale. Past that, Arrogant Bastard does a good job, if you tend more toward the hoppy end of things. Their Double Bastard Ale, however, is a good bit too hoppy for my tastes. Give me a good stout or porter any day. Speaking of which, Anchor porter is quite good. A local brewery does a sweet potato ale, which is one of the best beers I've ever had. they garnish with brown sugar and graham cracker crumbs on the rim of the glass. Perfect fall seasonal brew.

That sweet potato brew sounds great! I could go for that.

The New York Times reports on a tasting of some rather pricey beers. Consider Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien at $35 US for a 25.4-ounce bottle! Link

In 1873 Louis Pasteur was awarded U.S. patent 135,245 for "Improvement in Brewing Beer and Ale." The patent and drawings may be viewed here.

Can't recall the ale I drank last night, but it ended with '...Meg', and was very palatable!

I'll see your Sierra Nevada Bigfoot and raise you a Mill Street vintage barleywine. 11% abv., not-quite-sweet, hints of spice, florals and orange zest. Plus, it comes in a seriously-cool 500ml ceramic swingtop.

Fuller's London Porter!! To die for! It has the taste of a good strong ale, with a smokey, coffee taste. I could drink it all night. Well, I almost did actually.

I love beer! I'm majoring in microbiology, and I'm focusing my studies on fermentation and food microbio.
I can't pick favorites. My tastes tend to be toward hoppier beers, but not just IPAs. Most things that are more hoppy than malty appeal to me, but I do make exceptions for a malty beer with a more complex malt profile, like some Irish reds and porters (especially sherry porter). And I love Belgians! Duvel and all three Chimay varieties top my list. Cigar + chimay blue = crazy delicious
But I'm a die-hard hop head, so I voted IPA in the end.

Ever have a Coffee Porter? The Mill Street Brewery in Toronto makes one that's pretty decent. They use Balzacs coffee, which is my favorite coffee place in Stratford.

Hobgoblin it's quality. Hobgoblin was the first beer I bought legally with my own funds. Otherwise my choice lies in a Yuengling or two.

My nephew understands me — he usually gives me beer for Christmas. This year, he gave me a bottle of Unibroue Quatre-centième, a limited edition brewed to commemorate the 400 th aniversary of the founding of Québec City. I have yet to open it (I like to have a clear mind and an unsullied palate when I taste a new beer) but I have considerable respect for the other Unibroue products I've tried.
