Someone here posted this link a while ago. It's a lovely coat, I wanted to order one. Alas....it's on backorder. Any idea where I could get one for a similar price? http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=236338

I just checked and it appears they are back in stock. At least, I didn't see any back-order indication anywhere...

It does look nice, but at fifteen dollars, I'm not sure I would trust the quality. That seems a bit too cheap to me, and you get what you pay for.

The brass behemoth did turn and stare at me and I at It before It turned and lumbered away with a creak. In It's eyes there was almost seen a dulled intelligence, trapped behind servitude and great agony, and always will I ponder what sentience, if any, exists behind the eyes of clockwork automata.

I had one that looked similar and labeled the same (East German, etc.). It was very thin wool, and the collar inserts are cardboard. Buttons were thin tin.

Works for costumes at a distance, but up close the details are lacking. And for actual use in the winter, well... I can understand if some of the soldiers that had to wear these were a bit grumpy.

I own that very same coat from SportsmansGuide, and I can say it is fully suitable for winter use anywhere you'd want to be outside in North America. There is certainly no cardboard used in its construction. The last one I had lasted me daily winter wear for over six years. Anyhow, they have a generous return policy, so if you don't like it, send it back - no reason to pay more for it.

And I just have to say, that Uncle Sam's site is so ludicrously overpriced it's distressing.

Doesn't say it's on backorder till you add it to your cart. Thank you all so far!

Well that's very good to hear. I must have had a different one then (tho it did look the same). Mine was not suitable at all.
