I have just seen the UK Top Ten Cinema Box Office Rundown on Sky TV.
Despite the very limited cinema distribution, Iron Sky made it to number 10 this week.
Just think what it could have achieved with a proper Release.

Oops, A duplicate of Tinkers Post.
Considering the figures it has been pulling in from other countries, (Not record breaking, but good solid returns,) this is not entirely surprising, but as Tink says, given that it was initially released in only 30 Cinemas for one day, and then, as a result of fan pressure, it received an extended release in only 12 Cinemas, This is spectacular.
I have to admit, when I Saw the film yesterday, Knowing what I do about Revolvers half-assed promotion of this film, I was annoyed to see the Revolver Logo Taking pride of place at the start of the film.
None of the work, and all of the credit.

I took a look in Tescos yesterday, it is currently at number 20. The DVD released by Revolver in the UK is the basic film with no extras. Compare that with the copy released by the production company which also has two audio commentaries one the director and the other by the CGI producer, And a making of documentary. |

I took a look in Tescos yesterday, it is currently at number 20. The Countess saw that when she was in the there yesterday and arrived last night with a copy. Although it will be the vanilla version with no extras. |

The Countess (who doesn't know or care who produced it and all this furore about distribution) knew I wanted to see it and picked up a copy dirt cheap as a treat for me. Considering it's budget and the way it was financed, the sets and FX are really good. Very funny script. The 'Palin-alike' President was priceless. Udo Kier's role was somewhat under played but always good to see him. |

Everybody likes this - so I feel a bit out of step. Still don't know what it was that didn't quite do it for me. Perhaps I should see it again - I'll wait till there's a cheapo second-hand copy on Amazon (yes I know, a Revolver issue - but you never know).
I don't like buying new stuff at full price - I waited three or four years before Vampire Circus (yes, I know...) dropped below my threshold (usually a fiver). Annual income 20 shillings, annual expenditure nineteen shillings and sixpence - result - happiness!

There were a few moments that had me in stitches, and it was fun playing a little game I call 'spot the reference'.
My review?
Very silly, quite funny, but not a 'Great' film. That's not to say it's not a good film, though. I'm interested in seeing the prequel and the sequel, when/if they get made.

True. I get the feeling that the writers were worried about political backlash if they wrote it without silly scenes. If it had been written as straight as "Battleship" (budget, $200 million; plot, lame) it would have been a better movie. (For "Battleship", they actually towed the USS Missouri out of Pearl Harbor for filming.) |

According to the Iron Sky website, there will be many theatres playing the movie here in the U.S. this summer. The closest one to me is: Aug. 21 Seattle, WA, 7:30pm at the SIFF Cinema. I should see about getting a screening in Spokane.

Omg... I saw this movie with some friends about a month ago. Amazing. I had way too much time on my hands so I peeked on that neo-nazi Stormfront website out of curiosity, and um, folks there are pretty angry about this movie. Shocking, no? |

You suprise me actually. I finally saw it yesterday and although satire probably was what they were going for, I honestly thought it was all a bit too silly to upset anybody. It was amusing enough at times and quite entertaining, some spectacular effects certainly. It just all felt a bit rushed to me, and ultimately I simply came away thinking what an odd little film.

Lol, well quite which made it all the more suprising. For example I thought Renate Richter's transition from Nazi to anti Nazi could have been illustrated with a tad more detail. That was an opportunity to make a statement that I thought was definitely skirted around. Don't get me wrong I wasn't expecting them to go all Schindler's List or Fatherland on us, but still (imho) some slightly more provocative eye openers could have been touched on. The sad fact is, this is still a very current topic. I won't go into details on my opinion as it would contravene forum rules and you can probably guess which side of the fence I'm on anyway. I also realise it's a subject of particular sensitivity in Germany, not least of all from a legal standpoint. I do still feel however that as is the case with all satire, when making too much of a comedy about something there is a danger of making it slightly endearing (I live in true dread of Boris Johnson ever becoming Prime Minister for exactly that reason). Obviously the Nazis weren't the only subject of ridicule either, but much as I found it enjoyable, I was still personally hoping for a little more bite all round from this film. Nevertheless it was infinitely better than Dead Snow.  |
