Though calling it steampunk would be a stretch, has anyone here read Verne's 'The Mysterious Island'?
I am about 2/3 through it, and it appears to be a sort of sequel to 20,000 Leauges.

No stretch at all, as it is the sequel to 20,000.  markf

I can't believe I left those two movies off the "essentials" list.  Gotta get busy.
