Lots of lovely hats filtering into the shops now the cold weather's really bitten, seemingly quite a few 1920's style cloches in felt. Just crying out for a nice, big gear adornment, methinks.

I love my bowler. I am seldom without it.
I do get a fair number of odd looks from people, but I tend to get those with or without the hat.
What I have found to be truly surprising is the number of compliments I receive from older folks (70+).

I love hats!! And the more offbeat, the better. I'd love to see my man in a bowler everyday.

I can't see why so many people these days don't wear hats regularly. It was only as recently as what? the 50s? When a gent would always wear a hat when going outdoors. I used to wear a bowler but lost it. I intend to buy a new one because I think they are wonderful hats.

Ironic- wearing a hat keeps the hair folicles warm = helps keep the blood vessels dilated & the blood flowing which strengthens hair growth.

I finished my furry hat last night. I'll post a pick later. It's so warm and poofy. I love it!

Trilbies are one hat I would never wear regardless of how nice they look, because around here they seem to be popular among alternative/pop radio listeners, and I'd rather not become associated with that crowd.

Back when I used to have a proper bowler (before the bleeding cat ruined it... ) I got quite a few strange looks. I will be acquiring another as soon as the opportunity presents itself, and I shall once again have my power of confusing the mundanes. I tried to find one here in Bilbao, but the only place that had them was a true haberdashery (ie really nice hats! *drool*) and I couldn't afford the €128 required for even the cheapest one... I will probably order a $50 one off the internet when I get back to the States. That much I can afford!

My roommate has just informed me that "no one should ever wear a top hat, that you own one is strange enough." This has only made me more determined than ever to come up with an excuse to wear it again. I myself has been quite obsessed with hats for quite some time (the top hat being my first proper hat, I believe, having purchased it some five or so years ago) and never realised why. I think it stems from my love of all by-gone things, which ultimately leads me here.
I too have gotten comments and stares because of my hats, though I'm usually pretty strange and they might have been staring at me anyway. It's getting colder here, maybe time to break out my fedora again... or the tophat.

I was in the Navy for 3 years and during that time we made a stop in Portsmouth England. keep in mind I am in full dress whites complete with the U.S. Flag on my arm. We enter a little place to grab a bite and we get asked by the person at the counter "So, you're sailors are ya?" We nod and smile and I swear to the powers that be they said "Americans?" I could'nt help it "Nope, Canadians" the clerk made this look of "Oh okay" smiled and served us without so much as a sideward glance.

Yes, we Brits like to either a) state the bloody obvious, b) use sarcasm or c) understate things. "Oh look, Cthullhu. I wonder what's for dinner..."

I'm aware of that having been to the UK a handful of times and having family/friends there. Sarcasm seems to be a universal language just some cultures are better at it then others it seems. The previously mentioned clerk did'nt seem to be sarcastic at all and if he was...was'nt very good at expressing it.
Hell, people here in the U.S. are no better, I've had people look at my shoulder and read what ship I'm on and got "U.S.S. Enterprise....Cool....so which ship are you on?"

I was going to ask the same thing, but I don't know who (or where) Garret is (from?)... Rachel Garrett captained the Enterprise NCC 1701-C. We were introduced to her in the TNG episode Yesterday's Enterprise. And Mr Taylor... That series violated Trek canon. There was no human contact with the Borg until Q Who, and the whole attempted explanation of the flat-forehead TOS Klingons was entirely unnecessary. And Vulcans should never be put in skin tight catsuits. Ever.

I assumed she was a Captain of the Starship Enterprise, I just didn't recall her (granted I haven't really seen the show in years - can I just say I'm terribly excited about the new movie?)
