Did I mention "Pusser's" rum?   Unfortunately, I can't buy it in a Pennsylvania "State" store.  I usually get it when we vacation in Delaware.  Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

The "Single Malt" of rums, you know...

I can hardly drink rum anymore, thanks to a very traumatic experience with a bottle of Captain Morgan.

It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

Of late, I have been drinking more martinis than any other hard liquor. Gin, vermouth, cold, olive. And I look sophisticated as anything, like some sort of frickin' Noel Coward character.

Shaking "bruises" the gin, adding micro bubbles of air to the cocktail. Or, the gentleman asking is Bond.

A cider lad this end, but none of that mass-produced plastic stuff that has scarecly smelt a real apple.

Proper cider is to be strained through a beard.

For hard alcohol I prefer Tequila, Vodka or Ouzo. I used to love rum but a dose of the Krakken cured me of those feelings rigth quick.

For mixed drinks I love Bloody Mary, properly mixed Sambucca di Amore or Absinthe, and Kamikazes or Margaritas. I actually prefer my Margarita on the rocks instead of blended.

For beer and Ale I love a good cider, porters and stouts can be nice, and IPAs are lovely. Currently, I've got my hands on a tasty Apricot beer

You've hit upon my favorite cocktail as well. While I do love sipping whiskey neat, a good Manhattan is nearly unbeatable.

A glass, a a bottle, a barrel-you choose Cheesy
I didn't understand your comment at first, but then I googled about firkin. I seriously never heard of firkin before  Embarrassed
But then again, I am from Croatia and we don't even use "gallons" or "pounds" or "miles" over here.

When it comes to liquor, my first choice is rum, especially Kraken.  However, thanks to the Burns Supper my duelling academy hosted in February, I have come to appreciate whiskey in a way I never thought I would.  At the Steampunk World's Fair earlier this month we played two rounds of Midnight Hotel Minigolf, which involves penalty drinks, and for the occassion I opened a 43-year-old bottle of Crown Royal I'd inherited... it was gooooood.

As for beer and such, the best I've had so far is the selection brewed by the Appalachian Brewing Company in Harrisburg, PA.  The Keystone Academy of Duelling and Swordsmanship meets there every Tuesday evening for class; we'll have a pint, train for an hour, have another pint, train for another hour, then have another pint.  Their Scottish Ale and Espresso Stout are both awesome.  I love mead and white wines too.

One of my guilty pleasures lately has been Van Gogh Espresso Vodka, especially when added to Bailey's on the rocks. Grin

They use the metric system, as is used almost universally in Europe, now.  In fact, I think that the only place in Europe where you'll hear the old Imperial system of feet, inches, miles, pints, and gallons being used is in the UK, and even that is dissapearing.

No, the only time Metric trumps Imperial is when ordering drinks: "Barman, a litre of Bitter, if you please".   Grin

Which brings me nicely to my tipples of choice: give me a fine single malt, a rich navy rum, and a good real-ale every time...oh, and Absinthe (loopy-juice); I'm not fussy about brands.
