As I may have intimated before, I currently have seven different beers in the basement at the farm, and three others in the apartment in Markham. They run the gamut from Guinness to Amsterdam Blonde (a Dutch/Canadian micro lager) to Morte Subite framboise lambic. And although I have none on hand, my staple of late has been Black Sheep Special.

...it's hard to find a good Eiswien back home. *hrms* Maybe it's just Kansas, though...

I'm not familiar with the German eiswiens, but have you tried a Niagara icewine? The Niagara Peninsula isn't dreadfully far from Kansas, although once you cross the border, the DHS might not let you cross back... Tongue

I've never had absthine before. I can't purchase it locally. Everywhere online I locate it at charges $80-$150 roughly a bottle.

I do cherish a good Boilermaker from time to time.

Im my oppinion absinthe is not worth it. I think it tastes like high class wick cough remedy, literally. OK, it's oe of THE steampunk era drinks and a lot of great people loved it in their time but it does not taste all that nice.
That's just my personal oppinion, of course.

Sounds a bit like the pastis I drank rather too much of one summer in Cap D'Agde whilst scene painting for a local camp site's loosely termed entertainment complex...... Cheesy Happy days!

I don't know where you are located, but here in Portland there are quite a few bars that feature absinthe drinks, which is much cheaper than buying a whole bottle.

Are you near any large metropolitan areas, or do you live in one of those states with "dry" counties?  Huh

I think it is very much a love it or hate it beverage. And the quality varies wildly within the commercially available Absinthes, leading to alot of people drinking crappy absinthe, and wondering why they don't like it.

I happen to love the stuff, finding it refreshing and complex as a aperitif. But that is just my opinion (and I have tonnes of those). Cheesy

I currently reside in Ocala, FL which isn't a big city but it's near bigger ones such as Orlando, Gainesville, Tampa and Jacksonville.

I enjoyed trying the faux absinthe a friend once brought to a party, but recent study as shown that there isn't enough of the hallucinogenic chemical even in vintage absinthe to make it worth the price of the new U.S. legal versions. I think I'll stick with the anti-malarial properties of my G & T's*

That is just plain rude. He should drink it buy his lonesome when not willing to share. Drinking should be done socially or not at all....

mmmmmm.... Boilermaker.... I haven't had that in a a while....

Only just seen this...

I'm not much of a drinker (saves vital money at college, I tell ya) though I've always wanted to try absinthe. When I can get it though, I'm rather partial to a nice irish cream or whiskey.

How much aniseed flavour is in absinthe, - I can't stomach aniseed after a little incident on a french beach (pernot/white wine mix, a riotous drinking game, followed by crawing back to my tent, carefully covering the vomit with sand every 10 metres)

Well, everybody ‘round here drinks beer, whiskey, or tequila.  Sad

I happens to prefer any sweet dark molasses rum on rocks or mixed with a splash of cola—which I gets mocked for by me friends.   From Cheap (Black strap) or good  (Venezuelan Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva), I be happy whenever I can get hold of the stuff (others like Gosling's Black Seal, Myers, Screech, Cane, etc ).

With a nice bit o’ beef, I likes my wine red and dry.    Beer I only drink rarely and will pick a porter or a stout over others.

Never actually had absinthe.

Vodka…  The colder, the better.
An archeologist associate of mine had a bottle directly from Russia and managed to get in into the deep freeze at a University science lab.

Drinking bliss, that was.

on the note of coffee drinks, I was pleasantly surpised at how good I found the Starbucks coffee liquer to be.  I like Kahlua, but it never tasted that much like coffee to me.

Ok, I ain’t no photographer (trying to figure this art out) so these are horrid and my wireless be acting up too much to re-shoot.  I can try again later but these give you the idea.
