Righto - it has been a long time between drinks here folks, so hre is some news.

Several of us Melbourne steampunkers are in the planning stage for an exhibition of steampunk artifacts and performances planned for early March at a store in Footscray.

There will be themed rooms on display, atrifacts, performances and music - and an opening night event.

I will post more as I know more - meanwhile I need to get cracking on one or two new projects...

The store isnt "Post Industrial Design" is it?

Sorry

Hey - no need to be, glad to hear you are well informed!

So yes, there will be a steampunk exhibition at Post Industrial Design in West Footscray in March 2012.

So far we have several collaborating artists who are preparing their wares for display in the three themed 'suites' that will form the exhibition.

Today I met with an artist collaborator who has the most amazing original piece of Victorian cast iron and leather specialist furniture, and together we will use this piece to ask 'what does steampunk sound like?'

I will be exhibiting some new pieces made for the exhibition, and working with two other artists on their pieces to get them ready in time.

There will be a free opening event with wonderful entertainment and opportunities to dress up - more on that once we have the flyer done.

bmgillies your costume was outstanding! Well done sir.

Steamscape was brilliant - over 500 people there and many familiar Melbourne steampunk folk.

I realized how much I miss you all - we must meet more regularly.

The exhibition is on for a month - plenty of time to get over to it and see the steampunk goodness.

I need to invent a time machine so I can get to these things while I'm busy elsewhere.

A couple of events on the long weekend that might interest some here.

The Scoresby Steamfest is running for all 3 days. Steam engines of all sizes from models to traction engines to the permanent collection of industrial engines.

On Sunday and Monday, Steamrail are holding an Open Day. Several running steam locomotives will be there, along with the people who restore and run them.

Good show - well we need to generate a little interest and get a few folk on board. My place is available and we could use the shed (albeit a bit cramped) and the back yard to tinker in (weather permitting). I guess people attending would need to bring a bag of stuff they would use to make a ray gun, and then we can tinker together - using my tools.

Probably in May.

Now if someone else has a larger space internally in the inner suburbs of Melbourne - that would do too.

I assure you that this thread is more active than community.livejournal.com/aus_steampunk/. As for Facebook, not everyone uses that but this is a common bulletin.
