I said nothing of porter, I merely denied him access to my supply of Port. You can keep your stout to yourself. I have plenty of iron thank you.

Ah, that would be the Gentleman's Portable Vortex Manipulator having a bit of a time slip again, gears need tightening up! However since I have not missed this second one I hope to be there.

So, I believe I read about the first of these, but was unable to attend at the time. I admit that this one passed me by but with it being just outside of Birmingham and sufficiently far ahead in time that I can plan a little, I am quite interested in playing.
I've LARPed a little in the past, playing and running Vampire games, a few visits to the Gathering, and occasional one offs from other places.
Your link for creating a character took me to a post on the LJ about the first game, so I'm not sure how to create a character yet, but I'm still catching up on reading that journal, this thread (7 pages as it is) and your forum (though it seems a little quite there currently). If I've missed something, do please PM me.

the v1.1 rules are in that livejournal, i seem to remember there was a link within one of the first couple of sites to a PDF.
though those are the 1.0 rules and i believe he mentioned there being a 1.1 rules being released for the second event, so im awaiting them before i finalize my character

It's half term so I'm currently running through downtimes from the last game, getting the rumour sheets ready to post and am sorting out the amendments for version 1.1 of the rules.
Everything should hit t'internet by the end of the week when there will be big obvious links to click on and take you towards character generation. Simple break down however... Choose Race: British/French/German/etc Choose Class: Upper/Middle/Lower Choose Skills: Engineering/Linguistics/Politics/Occult/Natural Philosophy/Military -Skills are ranked Apprentice/Journeyman/Master. Characters may be Journeyman of one skill and Apprentice of another or Master of a single skill. Lower class characters gain an additional Apprentice skill.

Apologies, things are running a little behind schedule due to the decision that girl was more important than Larp. Expect the rumours, rules updates and more event splash to hit t'internet asap.

The updates to the 'An Evening of Science and Mystery' game rules are now available on the 'Game Rules' section of the Forum of Science and Mystery. http://scienceandmystery.myfreeforum.org/forum20.phpEngineers, Natural Philosophers and Politicians especially should take a look.

"Apprentice Engineers may ....... gather the required tools and equipment for a job."
I'm not clear what that means. Does it mean that tools and equipment collected by non-engineers cannot be used for a job?

Feel free to use a bit of creative interpretation, there is a difference between...
"Find me a hammer."
and
"Find me a 2" open end cranked podger."
The intent is for Apprentices to be involved in searching through piles of junk and assiting the Journeymen/Master Engineers in creating their wild and wonderful machines. Apprentice Engineers have an intimate knowledge of the tools of the trade and how to recognise usable components, given a workshop and time they can create whatever they wish, it's the more experienced engineers who are skilled at bodging together devices on short notice.

The Times, 15th June 1866
"As the Great Tea Race set's off from the distant land of China, this year seeing the largest wagers ever placed on the clipper's journies from the mysterious east, word reaches us that diplomatic relations with the Dragon have been rescued through the masterful work of the Foriegn Secretary. As I write, the worlds finest diplomats, politicians and nobility head to the Chinese port of Canton where the Princess Chirp Sing is to be wed to the Mongolian Taiji Tömörbaatar (Prince Iron-Hero).
The Princess being forbidden to leave the land of the Dragon and the family of her future husband forbidden to enter by ancient treaty. The British embassy has offered to play host to the groom, the people of Britain being granted the honour of standing as his family for the ceremony. Rumour has it that Russian diplomats have made similar offers and are to stand with the bride on this joyous occasion."

The Russkies attending on behalf o'the bride's family, well damm me, it weren't that long ago the czars forces were taking a pop at the Mongols themselves was it ?? You know, like when General Perovski massacred all those Mongols at Ak Mechet in '53. Hmm, this should be a fun bun-fight !!

And we were having a crack at the Russkis ourselves only ten years ago. Allied with the French, we were. Most irregular.

Ahmm, Not, may I state that I have anything against the Russkies, I mean Russians, a fine bunch of people I am sure, not at all prone to cutting open dead bodies or strange "practices".
