Cool gloves!   Cheesy

But the outfit is needing...I don't know...maybe some military style "Royal Space Marines" insignia or something?  Or, if you're going as an intrepid civilian tinkerer/space explorer, some sort of ...je ne sais quoi?...fashionable touch to accessorize that hopelessly utilitarian boiler suit.  I'd say perhaps a cravat, but the helmet would cover it.

Yes, I know; not very helpful input there, is it?  So sorry.   As usual, I suspect I'll only know what that right finishing touch is the moment I see you've already added it.  Grin

Edit:  Having just now seen the photos Mr Beben has added, I'll second your assessment of his genius.  I think you should hire him on as crew, once you get your space ship built.

Ah...you were planning on building one once you finish your space suit, yes?   Cheesy

I was actually thinking of airbrushing it- putting fake 'cushioned' panels on it, if you get me.

Which has the advantage of it not mattering what the fabric or the stitching is made out of.

I know it would be a lot of work but I do not think you should go with the air brush. Real things always look better.

Very good work as usual Herr Doctor! I think the body (the pot part) needs a bit of stress. The pure clean gray looks decent, but a bit of aging would, in my opinion, make it a bit better.

Oh Yes, Cricket padding is wildly appropriate, Perhaps you can teach the locals the virtues of the game.  They've got plenty of very tall wickets lying around.

I've just joined this forum because I've just been through this amazing thread...Herr Doktor you're an inspiration.
I can't wait to see how this turns out with the completed suit.

I love your "ray gun" too

You're too good to me, Doktor. I enjoy your collection of hats.

As for the suit, I think it ought to be dyed as well. Just a bit too bright is all. It contrasts with the helmet too vividly, making them seem like seperate things, instead of two parts of the whole.

Also, you might want to have a look around to see if you can find any pictures of the space suits from Firefly, as they've got some interesting reinforcements that would be simple enough to do, and might suit you.

Having seen the full set of cards, I can only say that the game itself is the steamiest, most wonderful game ever to be conceived.

Please consider visiting the local home center/lumber yard for round louvered vents, used as soffit vents for homes.  These come in a variety of sizes, and being aluminum are of light weight, and readily stripped/repainted.
Other louvered panels are available in square and rectangular shapes, and IIRC there are long louvered strips also used as soffit vents.
Imagine a complete set of lorica segmentata (Roman Armor type) for the suit exterior using the louvered strips!

Find this stuff in the aisles displaying roofing and siding materials.

Another thought occurs......
There are now available roof and soffit vents that are constructed of layered corrugated plastic.  These can be used as vents, perhaps cut and glued , and used to make the 'working end' of projection pistols, etc.
The 'bee hive cell' look would be very interesting.

Yours in Tarnish,

Thank you all for your interest and comments, I'll make a start proper on the suit soon, but I'll probably start a seperate thread for that project, and, in the meantime, I've got some side projects on the go: for a start, how does a self-respecting Steampunk get to another world..?

Oh, and when I have the opportunity, there will be pictures of the thing being worn by yours truly!

My good Doctor, I am amazed by the finished product and I am hoping that you will do more "Steam Space" related items.
If you can give some advice to an aspiring mad scientist on crafting such fine contraptions, I would repay you with what I can get my cot stained fingers on.
