A bit late, but well within the possibilities of a Steampunk retro-future Smiley  Build-able, too, I believe.

I can hear it now......

This gives me an idea: pocket phonographs! I think cylinders would be more comfortable to carry in one's pocket... I think it would even be possible to make one work quite well.

I'll have to remember this idea.

There used to be a toy that was essentially a car with a stylus underneath - you put it on a record (presumably one so bad that nobody objected) and it went round and round in circles, playing very squeaky music. I don't think they ever solved the problem of getting the speed right, but it's the sort of design that might lend itself to steampunkification.
