The Kosmos Brenner (yes it's an other raygun!)
« on: January 21, 2008, 06:59:38 pm »
After long and hard work it's finally (almost) finished, and I'm quite proud of it ::). I think most rayguns Iv'e seen looks abit to modern for my taste so this is my attempt at making a more "period" gun. it's about 95% made out of found objects or things I already had at hand (pretty much everyting exept the lenses and the LED light) the "isotop" is a clear plastic pen that i crarved with a knife and inserted broken pices of a glass stick, makes a really cool reflection a bit hard to see here though, a bit hard to see here though. the handle is walnut that i got from work. I plan to make a box for it with a manual and some other whatnots.
Well with no further adue-The Ebenhard 1887 Kosmos brenner mark2

humm... the pics are a bit crappy, i can probably take some better ones if anyone wants me to.

Nice, brutal looking.
Piece by piece, snip by snip, croup, dock, haunch, shoulders, hip,
Tread by thread, primmed and pressed, yard by yard, never stressed,
And that's the Art of the Dress!

Wow!  :o  I do not care for rayguns, but this one is one that I wouldn't mind having in my collection.  It is a wonderful piece!

That's a great specimen of artillery right there!

Ditto!  That is a lovely, lovely bit of kit ;D

Jaw-droppingly outstanding!

I love it when found-object work does not look recognizably like the found objects that make it up, once it's finished. Speaking of which, I'd love to hear a catalog of the various bits, if that wouldn't be spoiling the illusion too much.  I don't think I recognize anything specific.

Smashing work!  I feel a bit substandard in the pieces I have flowing through the work queue...  Nothing holds a candle to that!

What a great use of found objects. The detailing and general outline is very effective. Nothing looks like it doesnt belong.

The handle is actual walnut? Not the fake stuff we all do  ;D

How long have you been working on it?

Definitely one of the great rayguns of our time.  I'm amazed that it looks so real.  A beautiful job.

I'd love to hear a catalog of the various bits, if that wouldn't be spoiling the illusion too much.  I don't think I recognize anything specific.

This is one of the benefits of living out in the country, there's bits of scrap everywhere! before the time of refuse collection, people would throw their garbage on piles of rocks and burn it, the rusty leftovers still reamins, even though it's mostly rusty cans and glass splinter  you can sometimes find really intresting stuff if you dig a bit, like parts from old brass lamps and other odds and ends.

So apart from some lamp parts and other unidentified pieces there's also a lot of sheet brass, two old pill jars, parts from a clock pendulum, two cut down Lupe lenses,a yellow LED, some piping, and walnut grip. The trigger is based on what believe is an old lap switch

How long have you been working on it?
For some reason i have a hard time keeping track on when i start and how long i work on projects, but i think i started this somewhere around Christmas,

thanks for the good words everyone ;D

BTW... I'm thinking of adding some sort of aiming mechanism, ideas welcome...

That's a superb piece.  Looks like it might be almost as dangerous for the operate as for the target.   ;D

That really is gorgeous. It looks like it's seen more than a few missions to the moon, and could have even been used on the front lines against the Martian tripod invaders. I love how ornate and intricate and battered it is. Lends it some real authenticity.

That's just plain sexy. I think it has a Moorish flinty feel to it. Top notch!

I love the delicate, sharp feel it has to it, and the gauge.  Those three prongs at the end could double as a sort of bayonet.

I found a bunch of vacuum tubes like this once, sticking out of a disintegrating radio...... if you can avoind being menaced by tobacco-chewing men with shotguns, rural dumps are a goldmine :-)

AMAZING work..... absolutely elegant
