Someone decided they don't like castle life after all ... But that's another thread all together ...

the Luxuriant heritage style  was to rich for her pottery barn tastes

I am far from being a minimalist, but that decorative style is too much for me - I'd definitely take the house though!  And then furnish it in the 'Arts and Crafts' style.  (As opposed to the 'How many different patterns and colours can we get in one space - ooh look we could hang another picture there' style.)
You have to tread a fine line between avant-garde surrealism and getting yourself sectioned...

I too am a sucker for Arts & Crafts. Saw one advertised for sale (out of MY price range!) here a few years back - they had painted all the lovely wood panelling and the timber around the windows and doors as well as the doors in glossy beige paint. Through the entire house, all features had been erased under a layer of beige paint. I wept... There should be a law against it!

Beige? BEIGE?  Oh for heavens sake ....

Although actually, painting wood panelling should be an automatic sentence to live in a concrete 1960's high-rise for the rest of ones life!

At least it wasn't Magnolia!
Oh...my old war wound? I got that at The Battle of Dorking. Very nasty affair that was, I can tell you.

Arts & Craft  or Art Nouveau would have suited the cottage well. It would have retained a charm and status, while lending a less cluttered  and more simplified air to the home.  It could have worked marvelously.  It should have been that way .

Instead mehgan went for nouveau riche bland on bland on bland. She hired a designer that does middle class  Soho townhouses in pine and pastels.

 Here is a photo of the bathroom intended for the protection squad. { Other interior shots are for some reason secret , possibly because they are too awful for public view}

Torture chamber - no, no! Much too old fashioned! All that wasted space, not to mention the mess - and a severe shortage of minions to clean up and dispose of the bits and pieces!

But there must be a library and a music room!

Medieval Fortress Castles.
Like Bran Castle, near Brașov, Transylvania.
With a precipice on one side.

It's what Poenari Castle (the real Dracula castle) probably looked like.
But sadly, despite still being worth a visit for historic interest, Poinari is just a ruin.
It's 155 miles from Bran and doesn't even have a visitor centre (let alone the ubiquitous gift shop).
Just a dusty or muddy car park.

 ;D

Peonari is an intriguing castle, with an interesting history

Yes it is. Here's some history from 1994. The Vampyre Society and the first ever organised 'Dracula' tour.
