RIP Tim Brooke-Taylor, Radio 4 just lost 1/4 of it's comic genius (and significant portion of the hosts / panellists).

I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue will never be the same again.  Sad

We seem to have missed:

Adam Schlesinger, quite a musical life until the virus claimed him at age 52.

Brian Dennehy has passed away.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/16/movies/brian-dennehy-dead.html

He was in his mid forties when he became a really successful and recognized actor. His film resume starts in the 1970's, but his mannerisms didn't become really distinctive until the early to mid 1980's.

He really was a great character actor and completely underutilised.

I guess he's a cultural icon. Rumor has it that North Korean leader Kim Il Jong is very sick, vegetative after surgery, or possibly dead. So it he isn't dead, there's a chance that he will be soon.

I suppose he is an icon in North Korea, but Kim Il Jong isn't anyone else's cultural icon.

From The Guardian
"Irrfan Khan, one of Bollywood’s most beloved stars who had achieved considerable success in the west, has died aged 53.

He had been admitted to the intensive care unit of Mumbai’s Kokilaben hospital on Tuesday with a colon infection and on Wednesday morning a statement was released confirming his death.

“It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away,” read the statement. “Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him.”

Despite his status as one of Bollywood’s most celebrated actors, Khan had a reputation for modesty and integrity and news of his death sent India into mourning, prompting actors, fans and politicians from across the world to express their sadness at his death."

Vale Bruce Dawe,
15.2.1930-1.4.2020
The University of New England was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of undoubtedly one of Australia’s most successful and best loved Australian poets, Bruce Dawe, this month.
While he loomed large in the literary landscape and national imagination in a way very few achieve, particularly in their own lifetime, he did so through experiencing, and speaking to the experience, of everyday Australians.

Bit late, but I only learned of this today.

I loved "Gold & Brown"!
... probably the most blatant love song to heroin. (and it's actually 'Golden Brown' - one for the Misheard Lyrics thread  Wink )
Though nowadays Hugh Cornwell says "'Golden Brown' works on two levels. It's about heroin and also about a girl."

I was saddened recently when I discovered that one of my favourite teenage songs, The Only Ones' 'Another Girl, Another Planet' was actually about heroin as well. Perrett has more recently changed his tune and is now also claiming it's about a girl, but having said the opposite for 30 years...

Pity about the heroin link, but I never knew that, so I will take Golden Brown as a love song - to whomever!

Uwe Ludwig "Roy" Horn, October 3, 1944 – May 8, 2020

Roy Horn, from the Las Vegas magic and variety show "Sigfried and Roy" passed away today, age 75 from complications due to Coronavirus. The Sigfried and Roy show was canceled permanently when Roy was attacked by a white tiger named Manticore in 2003, during their signature show involving trained tigers and lions at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. Roy suffered a stroke and a severed spine as a result of the attack, but survived and managed to learn to walk again. The tiger also was spared and the duo plus the tiger made a last televised appearance in 2009
