Now there is a sadness - more humour gone from a world that needs all the help it can get. Only four 'originals' left now.

Another sad announcement. Aside from comedy, his history documentaries were always a favourite of mine.

Only US news programme worth watching - have watched what is now PBS Newshour since SBS started broadcasting it here. A big loss for journalism and the literary world. I will qualify the "Only US news programme worth watching" with the caveat "that I have seen so far" - there may be better, but haven't come across it yet.

Yet more sad news . Let's hope the Grim Reaper takes a bit of a break in February - he's been far too enthusiastic in his work of late. By the way, in tribute BBC4 aired Nicholas Parsons' documentary on Marie Antoinette' watch tonight; well worth catching on iPlayer both for its subject matter and as a retrospective of its presenter's life and career. Yours, Miranda.

Kellye Nakahara Wallett, a film and television actress best known for playing Lt. Nurse Kellye Yamato on “M-A-S-H,” has died at age 72.

Another sad piece of news - she was a great communicator of scientific ideas. Her series from the early 90s The Stars, although now dated in places, packed oodles of ideas into each half-hour episode, unlike some modern documentaries which manage to waffle on for an hour or so and say very little... Yours, Miranda.
