Just came here to post the same sad news. I can still remember when I first heard the first album; I'd never heard anything quite like it. Up there with the first Ramones album a couple of years earlier in terms of life-changing albums.

I just learned the the famed magician and skeptic James "The Amazing" Randy passed away yesterday, October 20th. I know from a time that I mentioned him on this forum in the past that he is not universally popular, but he was a major figure in the skeptics community.

A man of many talents - who else could master roles as a Russian (Hunt for Red October), an Englishman (countless, but especially Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) or an Italian (Highlander) with a Scottish accent (and of course his early Irish role in Darby O’Gill and the Little People).
I did like his singing talents, especially in the Muppet Show (he was Dr Doolittle, singing "Talk to the animals", trying not to be Bond - can't find a video)

One quibble. He wasn't the original James Bond. That was Barrry Nelson ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Nelson). Maybe not quite the Bond everyone expects, and was for a tv production, but it was an adaption of Casino Royale written by Fleming.

In Highlander he played "Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez," an immortal Egyptian with an assumed Spanish identity...with a Scottish accent

Thank you for the correction. I have only seen Highlander once and have always (falsely it seems) remembered him as Italian. Either way, as you agree, he does it brilliantly regardless of the accent which he refused to remove.

Sorontar I forgot all about the Darby O'Gill appearance, probably because I was so young when I saw it. Will have to look watch that again, if only to see The Man.

Arecibo Telescope (1960-2020), cosmic observer, planetary defender and star of such movies as GoldenEye (1995) and Contact (1997). As of November 19, 2020, the big dish is to be decommissioned and demolished, hopefully in that order.

Yes, very sad news. Rest In Pieces Which makes me wonder... if they sold pieces of it (to movie fans, astronomy fans, geeks of all types) as they demolished it, I wonder how far it would fund them to rebuild it. Better. Stronger. Faster. I would hope at least 6 million. Too soon?

He may not have been the voice but he was certainly the presence of Darth Vader - and the Green Cross Man too.

My business partner used to rep a few Star Wars actors on the convention circuit. He didn't rep David, but we saw him at shows all the time, and had dinner with him once. The Green Cross Man was unknown in the United States, but my partner found out about it and managed to find a Green Cross pin for sale online and had David sign it. He really was a fixture at conventions and will be missed.
