Our community arts group invited its members to come up with art that celebrates monsters, superheroes and villains for an art show that views in conjunction with a traveling exhibit of classic toys, movie memorabilia and other cultural icons of the same theme. An element of whimsey is a plus.

My entry is a combination of Frankenstein, I Robot and steampunk, "I, Frankensteam." What if the object of Dr. Frankensteam's cruel experiment was self aware? Obviously, not steampunk in the purist sense, if anything more dieselpunk. But I did try to use vintage parts when possible and age/weather any new hardware. I used only slot head screws for fastening, cloth covered wires and technology that could been available from the time of Boris Karloff's Frankenstein (I know, latitude please).

I spent most of the summer puttering until I was satisfied with the final layout. Thanks for viewing.

Wow, that is good. What are the green parts used for the head?

Thanks for the kind words folks.

The head shape (green) is the lower cover from an old, trashed, outboard motor someone threw out. The greenish eye is, I think, the underside of a sprinkler head. The mouth is a bronze toilet flange.

Just a follow up on this...

The public reception for this exhibit was last night and I saw this on display for the first time. A proud moment. The curators displayed it with the door of the black box closed, which did not follow my instructions. But after opening it and taking some pictures I concluded they were right. The composition is too cluttered with the door open. Too bad because I put a bunch of work into that, but it's better with a little visual relief in that corner.

Very impressive! And it looks well with the rest of the exhibition.
