This day 150 years ago, the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railways joined together at Promontory Summit, 66 miles northwest of Salt Lake City.

Less than four years had passed since the American Civil War ended, and crowds gathered to see a golden spike hammered into place to complete the Transcontinental railway, linking the East and West coasts of the United States.

Today, crowds gathered again for a re-enactment...
