here's one:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3941/

It's pretty dark, I've been thinking about making my own skin if I can get off my butt and get around to it
I'll keep looking and post some more if I find any others.

Hrm, I like that elegant one a lot, but it takes away me beloved "X"s on the tabs!  Any known way around that?  I tried "Tab-X", but it didn't help.

I REALLY like this one! The gears turn and everything! The only thing Id want to see different is the coloring. The Black should be rough and copper colored, and the Silver should be a shiney brass.

Please follow through on that desire, Mr. Adams!  The colors were my only complaints on that one as well...

Software?  Bah!  You should be able to do that by fiddling with the color levels on your monitor.

I would Mr Hildebrandt, except...I don't know how Sad

Well, yes, I suppose that could pose a problem...  Grin

Patasapien, what numbers did you wind up turning each dial too, to make it sepia? I'm thinking of trying it on a temporary basis....but it might get old fairly quickly Cheesy

settings/advanced/color

then it's all just fiddle with it this way, and fiddle with it that way.

I tell you this though, I am NEVER changing it back. this computer is finally starting to look right next to my armillary sphere, antique test tube collection, and WWII memorabilia.

...now I am going to have to do a laptop mod though.....

To All, well met indeed.  With great delight has my perusal been which has indeed led me to various venues of thought.  One such was the skinning of Firefox and other sundries.  So might I suggest this particular one:

glowywine

For desktop settings, I tend to prefer, at least within XP, the Maple color scheme with the Coffee Bean background.  And how surprised was I once setting was completed afore this site was opened.  Harmonious, rich and vibrant.  I am well pleased indeed.

Nice bit of old thread necromancy...  Wink Cheesy

This thread could probably do with a move to Metaphysical, It's not really a tactile subject anymore... (Mods?...)

Anyway, to answere your question:
There are a few steamy firefox skins, but not all of them work or have been updated to the more recent firefox issues (I'm not so keen on the rapid update thing - they seem to be constantly breaking things and forever changing bits that make other stuff work.... or not as the case may be).  The one I use is the "Old Factory" theme (there is also a matching theme for win XP), which works quite nicely. Not overly steampunk, but I like it.

Can be found here:

http://www.theme-oasis.org/

Also changing your colour theme on Windows can help, the standard blue settings kinda stick out. I usually use a combination of reds and browns (warm natural / neutral colours), which ties things together nicely (I also tend to use a scanned parchment image as my desktop wallpaper, so the beige colours are present anyway).

Others will probably offer other ideas soon.  Smiley

I'd offer another idea, but I'm using the same.  Tongue

I have Windows set to a sort of bronzish color, with a deep grey paisley wallpaper for wallpaper.

Siliconous and Aleister,

Thanks for your input. It saddens me that our tech-savvy steam-brethren have left us with so few options.... It makes me wish I knew more about coding/web design.
