Ahoihoi Today I want to introduce a heavy lady. Brass, a bit of aluminum, copper and steel. The paint is actually a bit too clean but that might be caused by my old job, lab tech for paints and polymers. Might age it though, not sure yet. Let me know what you lords n ladies think of the build

very nice.
To contrast the gun, I think the display stand should be wood, not metal.

Oh. My . Gawd. That is magnificent!
Was zum Teufel ein echter blauer Laserstrahl?

The gun is +10 pounds, so wood is too feeble....but the stand is not really THE final stand, its just the making-it-easier-to-work-on-that-b**ch stand. She dropped and fell more often than me when I am drunk.........probably because I was drunk only once. But you catch my drift.

Entshuldigen Sie mir bitte ... Nur ein bisschen. Ich habe Deutsch im Gymnasium, es ist so viele Jahre her ..... some school phrases are burned into my memory forever ... such as "Nichts als ein paar kline Fische" and " Ich habe eine neue Jacke kaufen" my efforts at the German language are occassionally hilarious. My colleagues Walldorf will never let me forget the time I turned "The feast day of the Assumption of Mary" into "climb up on Mary feast" since then I try to ... confirm ... what I "think" I am saying :-) chuss prof marvel

Absolutely stunning, and including an actual laser into it is just pure genius. There's a thread over on 'Off topic' about Heinlein's Starship Troopers - I think you've just created the perfect weapon for a Steampunk startship trooper. Wunderbar!*
Yours, Miranda.
*Sorry, that's about the extent of my German. As a typical Brit I'm afraid the only languages I'm fluent in are English and Gibberish...

I wish they had more scifi weapons in Starship troopers but the regular ratatatatt worked well for killing bugs I have to admit.

Could the Victorians have invented lasers? Is the device close enough to devices that the Victorians had?

Are you shittin' me with that question? Fuck me, this forum is getting too anal. Wonder why people are leaving in droves? It's a Fantasy Steampunk Forum! This shit ain't real! So now Twenty Thousand Leagues with nuclear powered drive system, laser rifles, and Aqua-lung in the era are questioned? I ask because the idea of the technology being derived from something that actually existed at the time is more interesting and sophisticated than saying "what if Oscar Wild had an IPhone?" That's why "Difference Engine" is about steam powered analytical engines, and not Apple MacIntoshes, and why steampunk enthusiasts have airship clubs and not supersonic concorde clubs. The earliest ruby lasers were fairly simple in design; a cylinder of synthetic ruby, some mirrors, and something called a "quartz flash tube" which seems similar a neon tube. Would it have been beyond 19th century technology to build this?

Uuuuhm...ok a) its was the FIRST laser. b) it was a natural ruby back then and c) that was 1960 :p
I am used to "discussions" like that, does not really make it easier. Steampunk is art, art is not really something fix... Me personally, I dont consider glued on gears on a freakin UGLY Nerf Maverick Steampunk, but if it works for others, fine with me ^^
