Aye, I have a La Fee glass from when I ordered one of their sample sets last year as well, but I worry about addiction running in my family (both my parents are smokers and I have a few aunts and uncles on both sides that have had problems with alcohol), so I'm trying to steer clear of drinking alone (no matter HOW tasty rum & coke is!). The problem is that one glass does not a party make...  Trust me, if you have the will power addictions do not pass over, in fact they probably are avoided by the next generation because of the fact their parents do. My parents are alcoholics, but i'm not *hic*. I know... I'm just trying to be careful is all. Drinking while home alone on a regular basis is a strong indicator of alcoholism, so I figure keeping things social when I drink and making a point being responsible even then would be for the best. |

Well, here I was pricing my purchases I found that the set of six glasses I found is shipping from overseas and thus would run an additional $70 for shipping and handling. I have found a slightly more expensive set on Amazon, but it's more my style anyways and the shipping is free, so it comes out to half as much as buying them from Absinthe on the Net
Now I just need a source on absinthe spoons. I'm seriously considering looking into commissioning them from someone with a CNC router...

It might just be that their glasses ship from an overseas warehouse. I keep seeing the same glasses and spoons everywhere so I'm thinking there's actually just one company that makes them all and a whole bunch of people just running web stores as fronts with 'em. if that's really the case, I'd just much rather either deal with the people making them or find some brick-and-mortar place in the Chicago area selling them and save myself some money.

Holy crap. I'm in Chicago. If you want to expand your Absinthe party at some point to a comparative tasting, I have three europeans to throw into the mix along with the Lucid. (Montemarte, Duplais Balance, Verte de Fougerolles) Let me know if you find any place here that carries something close. I've struck out. |

They carry Kubler and Sirène Verte as well as just Lucid. I was getting together a tasting party for some friends of mine who;ve never tried it though as a thing for my birthday (and I've only tried La Fee Parisienne), but I'll be sure to let you know if I find any sources for absinthe acoutrement in the area.

Check Ebay! Yeah, I've found that for some reason Absinthe on the Net sells there stuff at lower prices (even with Buy it Now) and lower shipping over their Ebay store than their actual store. Still, I'm sufficiently weirded out that I'd just as soon try to find the source for all these companies selling the same variety of stuff. That or get some spoons custom milled (which is looking like a better and better option the more I search...). |

For a while, Pernod Pastis was packaged with an appropriate spoon - I wonder if the distributor, or some shop carries that one for cheap.

Over time this has engendered in me a terrible and unworthy prejudice that the drinking and supposed enjoyment of Absinthe by anybody is pure bohemian affectation. Port, anyone?

I finally got around to trying absinthe recently. So I was down in Tijuana with some friends, and I saw a sign in some dive bar advertising it, so I stopped in to have a taste. The bartender takes me into a corner, then brings out a shot with a thick green liquid in it. Then he does the whole lighting sugar on fire show. I down it, and it is one of the most vile things I have ever drank. I'm pretty sure he just gave me scorched Nyquil, because that is exactly what it tasted like.

The odds of it being a "good absinthe" are pretty low. And even if it WAS a good one, he's now put flaming sugar in it, which will ruin the taste of anything. And if you didn't add water (to approximately 3:1) you just drank straight 60%+ alcohol, which nobody would expect to be pleasant. Come up to Chicago. I'll make you a real glass. |
