Thujone or no, I still get the same warm, tingly feeling after a glass and a half of Lucid as with any of the other brands I've tried, and I personally enjoy it with a little less anise.
To each their own.

At this very second I'm drinking about three fingers worth of Hill's. I had a friend bring back a bottle from the Czech Republic 5 or so years ago. Never even bothered cracking it open until just now. Vile tasting stuff, with a kick like a mule. Cheers!

Heaven's no! The punch more than made up for the taste. Being acquainted with Absente, my expectations were set, but not met. That is to say, the flavour I was expecting (from having had Absente) was not the flavour I encountered. In hindsight, vile was much too strong a word.

Dear Aether Pirate,
My husband one absinthe experience was with Hills. His response was to run to the sink and spit it out. His description of the taste was worse than "vile".

Dear Mrs. Fahrmann,
I thank you for your reply. Was your husband experiencing it in the traditional manner? My first glass was sans sugar. I'm wondering if a second experiment would be in order...
Regards, Aether Pirate

Well, his favourite tipple is Scotch, which can be drunk from the bottle if no glass is handy. Although he puts it in a glass 99.9% of the time...

Drinking scotch from the bottle? Isn“t that a bit like putting a sign saying "Alcoholic" around your neck?

I am afraid it is rather uncouth, although I have been known to swig after too much of the sauce...

Dear Atterton,
congrats O Fellow Rogue Aetherlord.
Apparently, my husband learned his drinking habits in a University fraternity house. He's toned it down considerably since getting married.

Dear M. Aether Pirate -
For what it's worth, Hills scores a rather dismal 15 out of a possible 100 points on average tastings at Fee Verte, and other similar review sites.
Granted everyone's tastes and preferences are different, but personally, I would not use this as a barometer for fine absinthe.
Cheers, RD

I like La Fee. It has a very strong aniseed taste. And by the way! New cocktail! Bug juice=Absinthe and Red Bull!!

yeah, but that's what's so cool about it. The green fairy in Moulin Rouge is more to show the crazy nightlife Christian experiences in Paris, but that's probably the coolest scene in the movie.
I read a book a while ago where a group of girls went to a party and got drunk on absinthe...the book took place in the 1800s, so for those girls to do that was a big no-no. I guess absinthe really is an older thing...which makes it more steampunk ^_^

My Dear Rogue Designer, Thank you for mentioning the Fee Verte site. I quite enjoyed the links, especially the link to the Absinthe Web Shop where I found another enjoyable link labeled "Buy the Finest Modern Absinthes." Most Respectfully, Aether Pirate

Dear M. Aether Pirate, I should have been more clear. I apologize. http://www.feeverte.net/ - has reviews, a buying guide, a forum, etc. The other one is domain parked and quite annoying. Cheers.

My Good Sir, The need to apolgize is all mine, for I fear my lack of command of the English language my have led you to believe I had stated something requiring an apology, when such was not the case. Your previous post was quite the informative one, and I cannot thank you enough. Had I not recently acquired copious amounts of rum, I am fairly certain a bottle of absinthe of a higher quality than Hill's would be on its way to our aether flyer. I Remain, Your Most Humble and Appreciative Servant, Aether Pirate

I love the way in which so many people revere what is effectively the drink of drunks, harlots and beggars.

And poets, writers and painters. Besides which, at current prices for a quality bottle, I don't know many drunks, harlots or beggars that would pay for that much for it.
