I rather enjoyed the NYT article.  Not so with a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, in which it appeared that the reviewer of the various kinds of absinthe seriously hated even the thought of drinking it, and who complained the entire article.  Ridiculous!

Here's the Wall Street Journal's article, Sampling Absinthe's Dubious Charms.

That was a terrible article in just about every way. Not written/structured particularly well. Poor research/fact checking. An obnoxious (flaunted and admitted) bias from the very get go. I hope this person doesn't ever write real news...

I enjoyed Lucid and I hope you do too!

Its the style of glass in this famous picture.

Hey that's my cat in that picture! black, long haired and barking mad...no wonder if she's drinking Absinthe behind my back

i recently had an experience drinking la fee with some friends of mine (found out one of them goes on this forum because as he puts it it is the most polite place on the internet). any way i woke up in a completely locked from the inside building in an expensive college 2 towns over with no phone or recolection of what had happened. apparently i drank the whole thing to myself rather fast.

thankfully i recovered my phone.

A friend of mine spent anight drinking absinthe in the company of housemates. The next morning their flat was completely trashed and no-one could remember a thing

Theoretically, if a cat drinks absinthe (as in the picture), do they see green mice?

Ms. Fahrmann-I'm not sure, but I'll ask my cat:

-ok, it's not absinthe- I wouldn't pour that much without diluting it-I was creating a scene for a silly lolcat for a friend

Although, when I have poured a glass of opaline , the cat will be insistent on sniffing it(and yes, putting her whole head in it)  before turning away disdainfully.

I recently dropped my friend off at his new apartment in Boston and felt the occasion was appropriate enough to put down the cash for a bottle of Pernod. Sans fountain or spoons, we made do quite ingeniously I might say. Simply poke a small hole in the bottom of a styrofoam cup, place it over your glass of la fee and add your ice water. Perfect drip. I find the taste of Pernod to be much more bitter and less aromatic than Lucid, though still enjoyable of course.

Has anyone tried Vieux Carre? My husband bought me a bottle of it. I haven't tried it yet, but I must say the bottle is lovely!

I have not tried it, but by all accounts, it should be good. The distiller is doing it right - single copper still, sourcing the best herbs... I know a few small distillers are angry that he snatched up all the melissa and genepi from a few growers in pontarlier. If his results are as good as his gin, and especially at the suggested price, I will certainly grab a bottle or two.

Let us know what you think of it! Smiley

I remember that...we were going to have a party, if I do remember correctly.  Loved the absinthe, hated the after-effects.

About a year ago, my brother, his friend, and myself all decided to purchase Absinthe... and we live in the US.  All I can say is, ain't the interweb grand??!!  Grin  After a very unexpectedly cool night, we had one problem.  It would take time to get more.

Apsinthion Polski Absinthe is now being sold in Sainsbury's in the UK. Any views as to its drinkability? As a newcomer I have nothing to compare it too.

haven't tried it myself but there are some reviews on the wormwood society board here:
http://www.wormwoodsociety.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=436

Might be a good gateway absinthe, though it sounds a bit sweet.

Fee verte only scores it a 34 out of 100... it's a mixed and macerated absinthe, not a distilled one. And those usually tend towards a bit oily and sweet. Color is artificial.

I'd say it's probably a pass, if there are any others to be had.

Now I'm confused. I am asking about Apsinthion by Toorank as described in Clairdelune's very helpful post. Your reply refers to "Fee verte" is that the same thing? I can't see Fee Verte or La Fee anywhere on the Apsinthion bottle or literature. Are we talking about the same thing here?

Very sorry for the confusion - Fee verte was a reference to a buyers guide/review site (one of the larger more complete/respected reviews).

The 34 score was for the Apsinthion Polski

Ahhhh  thanks for the clarification. This is a whole new experience for me and the culture and language are a bit of a learning curve! The Fee Verte web site will certainly help, thank you.

Yah Fee Verte (dot net - not the dot come) - http://www.feeverte.net/forum/

Great forum, and a very comprehensive brand list and tastings. Some very very knowledgeable people on there, including Ted Breaux (the principle distiller for Jade absinthes, as well as Lucid) and others.

I hear Marilyn Manson's created his own brand, Mansinthe. Apparently it tastes awful though.
On a side note, my high school mascot is a green fairy. Ahem, maybe it was my idea...

Mansithe actually checks in at a respectable 76 out of 100... It has a classic flavor profile, similar to the Duplais Balance (which I love). My biggest gripe is that I don't really like Marilyn Manson, and the bottle art (along with Balance, for that matter) deviates a bit from what I like in my expensive alcohol packaging. (That;s just the designer/photographer in me talking).
