Browsing the vast internet one comes acros a lot of interesting sights. one of which is a good deal of steampunk, which is good. but sometimes you come across something named "steampunk" that would fall into other catogories a lot better... and i decided to make a topic to share the worst/weirdest/anything things we found that were described as steampunk but might not be. disclaimer, i know everyone has a different view of what is or isn't steampunk, but i do think some things just too definitely are not. or not quite. that's the things we're looking for here. i will start this topic off with this bikini: or as ebay calls it "skull bikini Gothic Punk Lolita Cosplay steampunk alcatraz kuroneko camdenmarket"

The invisible woman is steampunk. Her garment is not.

We've had so many "this is not Steampunk" threads, but the funniest ones always came from Etsy and eBay. Apparently it's not just "glue a gear and call it Steampunk," but glue anything you want and call it Steampunk." Just fill it with junk...

Gone-but-not-forgotten Regretsy had an entire genre titled 'things that are not steampunk'. Some of them were real belters. ~~~ Addendum: Those lovely folks at Buzzfeed grabbed a bunch of them before Regretsy went.

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

Having made it past the "BuzzFeed Managing Editor "... "hates steampunk" (poor soul) then yes, most of those things are are utterly ridiculous, although... something could be done with the octopus necklace and the 'cup corset', with a different material, would make a nice arm bracer. Yours, Miranda. P.S. skull bikini Gothic Punk Lolita Cosplay steampunk alcatraz kuroneko camdenmarket is my aesthetic
Lots of fun dressing up options in there . Although I'm not so sure about the Alcatraz part... We haven't been down to Camden market for years; maybe a little trip over the summer to see if there are any bits and bobs to add to outfits

Oh yes - we had noticed that on the news, but I must admit that had slipped my mind since. Thankfully no one was hurt in that. according to web reports It seeems that most of the businesses are fine (the owners are claiming it was 30 out of 1000 businesses that were affected). Yours, Miranda.

I am not a fan of deviant art. So much of what people photograph in the costumes sections are poor examples.

And from aliexpress "Steampunk fun and fantasies zombie cosplay" OH MY GOD! THEY CAN'T EVEN GET "ZOMBIE" RIGHT!! What kind of mindless moron doesn't know what "zombie" means? That looks more like "The best man at the wedding got attacked by the neighbours' dog." Or "my tailor is legally blind and can't cut a straight line to save his life."

Yours, Miranda. Not a great deal. I drove past on Saturday night & the building that was on fire still looks fairly intact from the outside, I know Camden Guitars has gone (but you can't see that from the road) It's Camden Lock Centre (the building nearest to the traffic lights under the railway bridge (Nextdoor to Gilgamesh)) & the stalls in the courtyard adjacent to it Mainly the more touristy end of things as opposed to proper Camden Market type stuff (which is mostly the other side of Gilgamesh heading north).

Sorry to break this to you, sir, but your "GREY BUTTERFLY STEAMPUNK TATTOO ON RIGHT SHOULDER" does not strike me as very steampunk at all.

Never mind. In twenty years time it will just be a grey smudged tattoo that once wasn't particularly steampunk. The steampunk Indian Squaw loincloth will, however, last for ages - unfortunately.

THE CHEEZ WHIZ NECKLACE that's it i'm dead. this thread killed me. X.X
Perhaps Post-apocalyptic Atompunk? Cheez Whiz is a processed cheese sauce or spread sold by Kraft Foods. It was developed by a team led by food scientist Edwin Traisman (1915–2007). While many sources give its national debut as 1953,[1] it was advertised by Kraft and retailers in several states in late 1952
It is marketed in Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, the United States and Venezuela. How it made it's way into Mexico is a mystery... Oh, wait, I remember; it's when the Americans were trying to teach Mexicans how to eat fake Mexican food, like "Nachos" and Taco Bell's Burritos. The burritos fell out of favor really fast, but I think the Cheez Whiz stuck to children's teeth permanently. I remember seeing the radioactive substance marketed to kids in the 1980s. I know we invented the darn thing, but does anyone here still eat Cheez Whiz?
