I know in the Tactile section there are a couple of threads regarding restorations and building of replica Victorian machines and suchlike (for example the one I started myself regarding the construction of an 1890s railway locomotive)- and they're always very informative and interesting and perhaps introduce BG members to projects that they otherwise would have missed entirely.
But to get to the nub of it- these things cost money, or rather, they rely on crowdsourcing and fundraising appeals to get anywhere.
The idea I'm pondering is whether it would be acceptable to set up a thread somewhere on the boards, not asking for money directly or anything remotely like that of course, but a thread where when people come across these fundraising appeals they can put the contact details and a bit of information about the project into that thread so as to make the wider BG community aware of them, so individual BG members could donate if they felt so inclined.
Naturally any donations made by BG members would be entirely at their own risk and discretion and BG itself would play no part in any transactions. The intention of the thread would be merely to publicise that x/y/z is seeking money to do 1/2/3.
But as I say I'm not sure if such a thread would be desirable or appropriate, and I'm not sure exactly where it would best fit?- I would guess Trading?
What does everybody else think?
