Author Topic: Metropolis on the Big Screen in Detroit  (Read 2435 times)

On January 4th at the Senate Theater in on Grand River Avenue in Detroit.

The Senate has a weird history. It was a little movie theater that was closed by the 1970's. Then a small club bought the old steam organ that was being removed from one of Detroit's major theaters, and bought the Senate Theater at a tax sale just so that they could have a place to house the organ.

The club hosts organ concerts by its members, and the occasional showing of a classic film as a fundraiser to pay expenses. It isn't quite as grand or prestigious as the similar Redford Theater, but it's a venue where you can occasionally see classic films in Detroit.

The musical accompaniment will most likely be organ music and not an orchestra. Which print of Metropolis is to be shown is not mentioned in the advertisement.

It might be a nice outing for local steampunk clubs.
