I am on the third edit of my novel before it goes to the copy editor. Due to a few changes I may need to swap the name of a character.
I need a name for a scientist who has a particular interest in blood. It can be fictional or derived from a real scientist. I've had a Google hoping for inspiration but nothing is jumping out at me. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Man or woman scientist? And should their name reference blood in some way?

Apologies, I probably should have given a bit more detail.
The scientist is male and he is researching a new type of blood. He is not a major character in the novel.
Because of the nature of the story the name can't be too fanciful or comedic.
I guess I am hoping for some clever play on words to do with blood, but not too in your face or something based on a real scientist of the time.

Well this may help you get some ideas: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Hematologistsunfortunately, most of the entries relate to modern doctors and specialists in the field, but there's a chance there's a historic one in there. The only other alternative I can think of for a 'real world' example would be to look into the history of medicine, specifically attempts to perfect transfusion.

Krov (or rather kröv) is also a Village in germany. You can play with both meanings of the word.

In the 20's Russian scientist Bogdanov (a pseudonym) has been involved with blood. Rejuvenation through blood transfusion. Still engaged in the revolution and wrote fiction novels.
His real name was Malinovsky. And his other aliases - Werner, Maximov, Ryadovoy

Excellent. The next time I need a mad phlebotomist character I shall name them "von Krov."

Archibald Methuselah Cernunnos He keeps wanting people to call him Methuselah, because it sounds better. But they all know he's called Archibald. It's possible he has a bit of a complex about it.

Thanks everyone. Some great suggestions. I'm tending towards Bogdanov because his research fits well with the story. (Although timeline wise he's about fifty years too late). I guess my editor will have the final say.
I really liked 'Carmine Sanguinarius' too, so will squirrel that one away for future use.
Some great tongue in cheek suggestions but they don't really fit with my style of writing.
Thanks again fellow scribes.
