In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
         In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
         In Flanders fields.

 - Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, 1915

Today is the eleventh day of the eleventh month, Remembrance Day in the Commonwealth and Veterans Day in the United States. Let us all take a moment to remember those who have fought and died so that we don't have to.

By the power of caffeine do I set my mind in motion
By the Beans of Life do my thoughts acquire speed
My hands acquire a shaking
The shaking becomes a warning
By the power of caffeine do I set my mind in motion

Bless ya Sir! I'm so glad someone else posted this.

And a firm finger to FIFA, political emblem, be arsed and go swivel!

I for one in this mad world did indeed stop for 2 minutes in silence this morning at 11am UK time.

We do not forget. For if we do. We repeat.
And the whispers of millions of the better lost...
Will stand in judgement of us if we do.

Life was obliterated, just so we do not know the experience; that holds the lesson.

Accept the lesson, else life will be obliterated again. Creating a new generation of teachers to teach it.

Indeed - so many where I was yesterday stopped to mark the two minutes silence to commemorate the fallen.

We will remember them.

I am so moved every year and it is wonderful to see the number of young people who also respect this sad and beautiful tradition.

You have to tread a fine line between avant-garde surrealism and getting yourself sectioned...
