Prototype Gun
« on: June 17, 2016, 07:18:38 pm »
I've embarked on a project to design a gun with a tentative view to making moulds and casting the finished item in resin. Having great trouble in both visualising or drawing what I want I have to resort to building and trial and error. The work's been done quickly so a bit rough and ready using scraps as usual

Is this the model or the cast?

Still at the prototype model stage, not happy with the design yet, quite a few ideas to try.

That's really cool! An idea might be to change the grip angle and/or style to something like a Luger or a C96.

The grips the only part I'm happy with  ;D that was the starting point.

I do like the tripple-barelled version, but a version where you could have interchangebale barrels would be really really nice. Maybe in a nice presentation case with the barrels nicely lined up ready for use?

Miranda.

I also like more from that three-barreled version. Colour scheme and the grips look very nice, but i would like that even more with buffier side plates.

For example traditional Derringers have very fat grips and i'm big fan of that style.

The Thompson Contender is a real gun with interchangeable barrels for different calibers and purposes. A fantasy gun with varied barrels  (ray gun, coil gun, pepperbox, etc.) Is an interesting idea.

Mklll. I like this a lot, can't say it's what I had in mind because I only had vague ideas. Still a crude model but I'll hopefully finish it when the design's right. If I'm not happy by MkX I'll give up  ;D

It looks like it could be a pop-gun, with that plunger on the back of it.

True. It's a 22mm calibre if anyone's wondering  ;D

any chance of a ruler or hand next to them to get a feel for their size?

I overlooked that. Here you go. Overall length is 8 1/2 inches

Helpful seeing the hand.  The pistols are a little larger than I assumed, unless you have tiny hands and we don't want to go there. ;D

Last version, the project will have to be shelved for the time being. This is not my favourite one.

You could say This Latest Gun is a Signal Pistol for Steampunk Adventuring Parties. You'd Need something like that to Shoot a Signal Flare to Summon Help.

The gun needs a carrying case with spots for each of the different barrels. If your intention if to cast guns to sell, you could design inserts for a stock briefcase and cast them in foam epoxy for reduced weight.
