I drove past my local Carnegie library and saw scoffolding up, immediately thought, here we go yet another lovely building destined to be leveled and a bland block of flats erected in its place. But it's a grade 2 listed building and there was a chap cleaning the ornate sandstone, I'm happy  my initial thoughts were wrong. :)

Not today, but last month at my Aunt's wake, which we held at the Texas Federation of Women's Club mansion, just looking at the electrical control panel in the house indeed made me very happy.

Your humble servant in front of the electrical panel.

I've only gone and found Doctor Who Parody just now and I like it.
Oh...my old war wound? I got that at The Battle of Dorking. Very nasty affair that was, I can tell you.

My set (sans film length episode) of "Daria" arrived the other day - something to watch while I sit round with my foot up. Just home from hospital after an overnight stay for more work on my foot.

Build and first run of Tesla coil #6.
Kit-built.
Height less than 10 cm, spark length only 5mm.
Direct connection to mp3 player.
Recorded my voice and played it back.
Strange feeling to hear your voice coming out of the lightning.

After a long haitus plagued with health banalities,
university interruption and personal trivialities far too mundane to describe
much less subject anyone else to enduring the explanative detail ...

I logged in to Brass Goggles for the first time in at least two years.

For today, that will have to be all.

Welcome back

I was tinkering with a food experiment which turned out better than expected.

rice crispy treats that taste almost exactly like apple crisp. It's going to family gathering with me today, along with the pumpkin spice-crispy treats, and then hopefully some gifts to emergency room staff at three hospitals along the way home tonight.
When an explosion explodes hard enough, the dust wakes up and thinks about itself.

Watching some react trailers today there was a reaction to game trailers from the playstation experience 2016 expo. The last of them was such a surprise and increadible. The whole franchise of that game is some of the best story telling ever.

Part one of my new computer build is now complete.

By that I mean I finally have the Raspberry Pi computer actually running properly on an SD card that doesn't crap it's pants every five minutes (the reason I have been so quiet here lately). after a few tweaks, I seem to have it just nicely set up and overclocked to a point of reasonable stability (ie it would probably fail as an accurate number crunching machine (SETI@home, LHC@home, cipher cracking etc.), but runs games and videos at perfect speed without glitches).

It's pretty impressive what a £30 computer can do, especially considering it's no bigger than a credit card and uses less than 4 Watts of power.  ;D

Next step, the steampunk case - and this one will be different from the usual computer case conversions we often see...  ;)

I found a copy of a book I've been looking for for quite a long time.

You might think 'well, why does that make you happy?', but you see this book was only published once, in 1913, there are very few copies of it in existence (only six in academic libraries in the UK, apparently) and I didn't have to pay a fortune for it.
Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

Dealt with my Nemesis today.

There is one room in the cellar that had become my Nemesis over the years.
Last room, dead end, a few shelves on the wall and.....lots of junk.
I spent the whole of yesterday and today taking every single thing out, putting the useful stuff back in (in an orderly manner) and disposed of the rest.
For the last few years I always suceeded in clearing most of the florr but then
*Bing*
Somehow there was new stuff blocking the way.
Now the issue has been dealt with in a brute force approach.
Many things made me wonder why I had not thrown them away instad of putting them into this torage room....

Was accepted as the adopter of a beautiful 17 month old jet black rescue cat - to be claimed later this week, just in time for Christmas!

My junior cat died in June, and the senior boy has been lonely and missing his playmate. What they will make of each other I don't know, but they will have six months to get to be friends before my next long trip away!

He is to be renamed 'Brandubh' (Black Raven), aka Bran.

Congrats on becoming the parent of a new Mauser Mouser! I hope everyone gets on well together!

My Happy is that my experimental Christmas Apple Pie Dessert (No: gluten, egg, milk, yeast, nut, soy, blah blah blah )
was a great success, actually came out "Pie Like", with a good-tasting, edible (non-tooth breaking) crust and was yummy too!
( thank god - the fallback was coconut milk icre cream... )

I hope you all had a fine holiday, and wish you all an excellent New Year.

Have treated myself to a new (cheapish) mobile / cell phone. It's a smart phone and it runs Android 6.

Need to buy a new sim card though, my old one is too old to be supported and it is a full size sim but phone takes micro Sims. Don't feel like cutting the excess off the old sim... ;D

So until tomorrow I have a very nice internet tablet to play with. ;)

New boy has been here 2 weeks and a day, and has settled in as if he had been born here! There is still the odd hiss and spit from the senior cat, but as that was the case with the previous junior cat after 6 years of cohabitation I am not worried about that!

Congrats and Good Job. It took our Senior Cat Groucho 3 months before he wanted the new kittens "out with him".

Spotted some limited edition SIM cards for my new phone, they are "Pay As You Go" mobile data only sims, they were pre-loaded with 24Gb of data allowance and the credit will last for a maximum of two years from the date of activation, best part they were only £28 (same price as the usual 12GB pre-loaded cards!)

Got two of them (no time limit until activated) and if I take my time and go easy on the downloads / internet ussage then I will have four years worth of data for my phone. ;D  For comparison, the cheapest data rates on PAYG I can find in the UK is 1p per MB (or £10 per GB in other words). 48GB for £56 is a bloody bargain!  ;D ;D

Heh, as my phone is dual sim, I will set one data card for mobile data only and use another new phone sim for voice calls, which also gains a data allowance at the £10 per gig of data rate, so every top up of the card gains me some extra usage. Thus when the first 24GB runs out, I can slip in the spare one with the next 24GB and I don't have any worry about changing my number etc.  ;)

Sweeeet.  ;)  *happy dance*
