Not at all, but I do wonder, is the peacock made of lace or are you intending to lace it into something?
You have to tread a fine line between avant-garde surrealism and getting yourself sectioned...

I decided upon the quilted dove.

The peacock would have been made of lace with tail feathers in various tones of the same colour, also in lace.  I have an embroidery machine that can make this sort of thing, if you are wondering.  Hand-made lace requires far too much patience for me.

Sun is shining, for a change! (admittedly, with patches of cloud for tomorrow's rain) It's the middle of October, nearly summer, and there has hardly been a dry, sunshiny day for six months! The birds are chirping, the goats are continuing to chomp their way through my backyard jungle, and I am about to go out and have a cuppa on the back deck, so I can watch them chomp and/or ruminate. Nice!

A late birthday present from a friend.

We have a standing agreement not to spend any money (or absolutely minimal amounts if must be) on each other for birthdays, Christmas, etc.  So gifts tend to be things we cobble together out of junk we find, or something really cheap in a charity shop that still qualifies as 'junk'...  Yes, they are usually quite 'tacky' gifts, but there is a degree of thought in the process. ;D

Today I received a "thing in a jar", which consists of a large glass jar, a Kilner style 'Clip Top Jar' (AKA "Wire Bail" clasp jar), that is filled in the bottom with random dark coloured tissue paper, and the closed lid has attached via a thin length of thread, a small silver-sparkly butterfly-like LED cover from a string of cheap LED battery / solar garden lights. This butterfly is illuminated with a blue LED and a half-dead coin cell battery gripped between the LED's legs

And the above gift was produced with leftover items from their wedding day last year, so cost was zero.   :D

Goats are doing a splendid job, and a replacement lawn mower person is coming to see the place tomorrow. So, maybe a tidy yard in the offing. Also, the builder came today to tell me Thursday or Friday next week for my new window to be installed - weather depending, of course!!

Today I attended a funeral and a wake for an aunt. The funeral was sad but the wake/ remembrance was beautiful. Very much needed to uplift the spirits

A bit of Aussie understatement, although winter up here in the foothills of the mountains is much colder than in Ireland - no Gulf Stream to keep things reasonably warm here, you know! It is now heading to end of October, and there is still the odd snowfall right up in the mountains, and our overnight temp last Saturday was 2oC - and we had a frost day-before-yesterday!

Organized and attended a ceremony for one of the people I support, where he was awarded the Legion d'honneur for his part in the Normandy D-Day landings.  We'd kept it a surprise and he was quite overcome when the Deputy Lieutenant for the county presented it to him.  Tears all round. (But happy ones).

There's hope for humanity! Pardon me for I am an audiophile, but can one fall in love with a speaker system? The simplicity and sure-fottedness of old-school combined with the practicality of new school?  (*drool*)

Thonet & Vander Old-school true ported speakers with built-in amplifier and blue-tooth connectivity:

One small thing made me very happy - an old crusty power transformer inside an old analogue "Jerrold Communications" cable TV receiver I found dumped in the back lane on bin collection day.

No, it's not super rare or worth any money, nor have I been searching for this particular item for any length of time. Nope, it made me happy as it turns out that my spur of the moment decision to take that old cable box and gut it for parts, was a good idea. As I mentioned in the 'Gah' thread I have a small scale alternative power project (solar power) on the go, and nearly two weeks ago I built a device to automatically switch a dedicated wall socket between the normal power grid supply and my solar supply. Problem was to make it work I need to find a 12V alternating current power supply (most common ones are usually DC current like from a battery), however several raids on my parts bins resulted in three AC power supplies that either would not work with the device, or turned out to be dead and beyond fixing.

And this is where the transformer comes in - all transformers output AC current, and the one I found had several voltage outputs, one of which was ideal to get my  power transfer switch working. My system works something similar to an uninterruptible power supply ("UPS") used to protect computers from power interruptions, except that it also switches over from the mains grid if the sun is producing enough power.

My device is now working fully and completed!  I'm so pleased as it was really irritating me!  ;D

Cost of my system is verry little, apart from the solar panels, everything is made from essentially electrical scrap, even the huge battery packs were free from a local company's datacentre (their 'UPS' powers the whole building!), and I will get more as they are replaced on a five year maintenance cycle. ;)

Repair successful!

Was given a HP Network Duplex Colour Laserprinter......that did not print any magenta, even on a new cartridge some time ago.

Finally found some time to analyze.
Found out that this is a common problem.
Magenta being the bottom cartridge, this is where the dust collects.
Printer uses a system of 4 mirrors to calibrate colour saturation.
Mirror for magenta is bottom and....mounted horizontally.
Guess where the dust collects.

Found a good instruction on the net.
Took one hour to disassemble (including labelling all the plugs).
5 Minutes to clean the mirror.
Optical box has no seal at all.
One hour for reassembly.
Did not work.
Fan error 57.
Again disassembly and curses.
One plug of the small fan at the side had come off.
Replugged it.
Reassembled.
Powered up OK.
Entered service menu, started colour calibration.
Printed colour test page and....SUCCESS!

Network Duplex Colour Laser printer for FREE!
If brute force does not work....you´re not using enough of it.

That is really good news.

My own 'happy' today has just happened; I've come home from work and my lovely husband is cooking his 'special' pork hotpot for tea.
Very yummy.

Several things have made me happy today -

1 - I had a good day at work - the course I teach finished today without incident, and I got confirmation that everyone on the previous course had achieved their qualifications, 2 - I got my first University assignment back for this year, and it was a pass (and a pretty good one, too) - I had barely done any of the required reading and was in danger of submitting it late, so this was a pleasant surprise, and 3 - I have tomorrow off to start my long weekend for Steampunks in Space. :D
