Got a call from one of my agencies this morning. I start work Monday. It's only a week (perhaps more) but it still pays better than EI.

Went to sleep this morning when it was starting to get light outside. Woke up when it started to get dark outside. Now I'm having my breakfast coffee at 1730 hrs and enjoying it thoroughly. I love this time of the year. <3

That job fell through, but my former... current... the company I'm currently laid off from, called me yesterday to say that they need a driver for sick-leave coverage for the next week "or longer", and that they will need a new team lead for the afternoon shift whenever it starts up again, probably some time in December. Team leads make an extra 50¢/hour.

Today I am going out to a cafe. For lunch. With my friends. To eat food someone else made and see humans other than my significant other...

This is the first time for more than 12 months I will go out to socialise, so I'm a bit happy about it. Was kept in isolation by multiple lockdowns and needing to ensure I remained Covid free so I could receive chemo treatment for cancer. (If I had had so much as a sniffle, I wouldn't have been allowed into hospital for surgery or treatment.)

I am now in remission. I still need 3 more years of tests and chemo, but if I get Covid it is safe to delay the 'precautionary' treatment. That bright light you can see from the south is the sun shining off my teeth because I'm smiling!  Grin

I was on building site the other day when I heard a scream.....

"I'm fed up and need a hug" looked up and a labourer was looking at me......
"Tobes will you give me a hug?"

I replied " Come on big man, bring it on, give me some love, but don't you go grabbing my buttocks tho"

A hulk like squeeze followed.

Somehow being half crushed to death by a 7ft bearded, man mountain sort of made my day, go figure.

Good you issued conditions for the hug. Otherwise, there's a bar in downtown Austin called "The Iron Bear" for those who do like a little grabbing with their hug.  Cheesy  Cheesy

I have the misfortune to work in a male environment, even in this day and age you have to constantly confirm / affirm you are not gay, Bi, Trans or anything in between.

Most are racist, sexist, hate anyone not white and British, if you are not in a relationship and have spawned far too many offspring, there must be something suspect going on.

Only the other day, a chap we all know went to Brighton (known as the gay capital in the UK) and is always going there, so, of course doubts were cast on his sexuality, I just stood back and thought what a complete bunch of W%$£$"s.

I actually thought of one day announcing I am gay (I'm not btw) and me and my Black boyfriend have adopted an immigrant child we found wondering on the beach.

I hate it all and most of the people I know.  Pricks!

I understand completely.
I was working in similar toxic gossipy situations in the past.
It is difficult to hold it all in and not lash out.
But the end result of doing so is a "less than harmonious outcome"
The best I could hope to do is to Be Me and offer a better role model.

I believe you just did that!
At the very least you provided desperately needed support to one who actively asked for it.

Now perhaps a seed has been planted , that may sprout into something better.

I got a phone call from my employment agency early this afternoon. I start a new job on Monday evening starting at more than I would have made as Team Lead at my current employer.
Congratulations!
Survived my first week at the new job. This job is referred to as cross-docking, which is a slightly different groove from what I've done previously. We receive mixed trailer-loads of auto parts from one or more suppliers, unload them, and sort them onto different trailers according to which factory or warehouse they're going to. I managed to get almost everything onto the correct trailer, didn't run into anything hard enough to cause damage, and even got in a little overtime. (They assured me that the pallet that disappeared wasn't my doing.)

Indeed. At one of my old jobs, we got lots of raw materials in on single-use non-standard size pallets made of beautiful pine, and one of the shift managers would dismantle every single one of those pallets and take the wood home with him.

Well done. In this end of the Antipodes we no longer have a shortage of boxes of toilet paper, just a shortage of pallets to put them on. Treasure those pallets.
