I am looking for inspiration when it comes to "science branches" fitting in a steampunk setting. As examples I humbly submit the following as inspiration of what I am looking for; Paleocybernetics Thaumechanical Electrodivination Biopneumatics Ectozoology Aetheranalytics Thanautomatons Whatever comes to mind will be helpful - steampunk, Cthulhuesqe, magical, anything. A number of words to be inspired by (behind a spoiler-wall if you prefer more "open" association/imagination): Alchemy, Automatics, Ontology, Plasma, Cryogenics, Mycology, Ferro, Essence, Manipulation, Graviton, Navigation, Meta-, -Mancy, Crypto- Thanks in advance

Are you looking just for names, or actual defined fields?

any two root words for what you're looking for (Latin, Greek, whatever), when put together should make it go. 'mancy' is something you can 'suffix' to anything for fortune-telling, for example.

I am myself a Professor of Applied Paleontology.
Here's my card in case your Arctic Behemoth thaws out and goes on a rampage in the City, or if your airship crashes on a remote plateau inhabited with antediluvian beasts.

I like to call myself a cryptoanthropologist!
How about teratological engineers? (Most mad scientists are actually mad engineers, after all.)
Apocryphometrists? (Just because it may or may not be real doesn't mean it can't be measured!)
Eschatographer? (Who else is going to map the afterlife?)

psychoaudiometaphysics. The study of noisy crazy spirits. Crypto anthropomorphic biology. The study of unknown plants with human characteristics. Pasudometaphysical placebo spiritualism BBQ. The study of telling someone they are possessed. Thus insuring their recent bad behavior wasn't their fault. Then burning them at the stake for being a witch.
