Nice writeup, SB.  And I note the next issue of the magazine has 'steampunk' as its theme ...

Yes, that is funny timing. They wanted to talk to me because of my 3d printing and Blender pipeline, the Steampunk issue would have been just as valid. Smiley

If I may offer an addition to the Doorways series ... or maybe it's a standalone work ...

I see an old-style wall mounted telephone.

A single tentacle emerges from the earpiece.

Hahahahahahaha... breathe... Hahahahahahaha...
It was a perfect Doorways piece until the cheesy title Smiley
I love the idea... how about a fun 2d piece that I credit you as a collaborator Smiley
Full marks for the brilliantly terrible pun!
Not quite as terrible as my Cthulhushi pun from the 2d thread Smiley

Now you've recovered your breath ...

By all means.  I'm very happy to take all the credit I can get!

In my world, nothing is immune from puns.  Even Lovecraft.

Latest Doorway design. Submarine. The tentacles will be printed in clear filament and there with be the feeling that they are bringing rusty corruption with them. I think I'll probably add some PVA glue drips and dribbles to add to the wet feel.

The two lights by the door and a glow from behind it could be done with LEDs for some versions of this piece.

I'm hoping that the exhibition will be early next year in Adelaide. I am planning to do a simultaneous virtual exhibition for those who can't make it.

it would be a bit large but a wall art porthole with a tentacle just coming through would be nice. for a real wall, not the tiny walls.

ever see what acetone does to Styrofoam? that sort of rusty corrosion on the sub bulkhead would look the part, alien acid blood sort of effect

Great ideas. I have pans for a larger scale Doorway for the exhibition.
Here is the latest print. Needs cleanup, but I already like the proportions. Water tentacles to come Smiley

Fancy being on that submarine when the door starts to open, veerrry slowly, the first tip of tentacle slithers inside - yikes! Grin
