goggles? they're here somewhere.....

« on: February 12, 2016, 03:42:38 pm »

a friend got me looking at a website that he has ordered a couple of items from.
I fell down that rabbit hole and spent HOURS oohing and ahhing the thousands of items they have listed!

I still can't figure out how they can make a profit on most of it after shipping and everything.

anyway its called gearbest.com and so far he has had no problems with anything he has ordered.

i'm looking at some rucksack looking bags for steaming to use at cons

http://www.gearbest.com/men-s-bags/pp_181904.html
smallish but cheap one that I like

http://www.gearbest.com/men-s-bags/pp_183309.html
bigger and costlier but might be too thin to carry comfortably with hardcover books in it

http://www.gearbest.com/men-s-bags/pp_153417.html
maybe a messenger bag, a couple stand out

of course the ones I really like are sold out

they sell all sorts of electronics and such, he got a little quad copter that can do somersaults when you push a button.

I will report back how things go if and when I order anything from them.

If I sound too much like a shill, make me order a 599 pound kitchen complete from Leeds, but be warned the check will be written against the bank of Lagos for 25000 pounds so my uncle, the interior minister can get his money out of the country.

its all legit, scouts honor and all that.  Grin

I like the first one- curses! I needed one a few days ago, and ended up with a thin thing that will probably fall to bits in a few weeks.

I have had things from gearbest and had them arrive within a week (!) although I have heard that 6-8 weeks to the US is not unusual.

No connection either...

I ordered a couple of cheapo watches from them to check the quality, not bad, not bad at all. And, yes, they were delivered rather quickly even to the US.
Very interested in seeing what you receive!

yeah some of it finally showed up.

the bag was a bit of a letdown, the strap over the top and the shoulder straps have an ugly dark brown stripe of vinyl down the equally ugly white vinyl straps. I can just unstitch the center strap and recover the shoulder straps

it also has a mildew stain on one side even thought the shipping bag was sealed shut, luckily its rather faint and mostly covered by the flap.

the coat was even tighter than the chart showed, more like a 42 chest and body. its rather thin material for a jacket, it's definitely not going to keep you warm, so it would work nicely in a costume.

to call it a pea coat is playing fast and loose with the meaning

I've been checking out reviews of this site and if you leave aside the obvious fake five star reviews, it's almost all negative.  Terrible service, terrible shipping times, lost shipments never replaced, shoddy goods ... About the only good thing any real review has to say about them is that they were polite while they stalled.

Just a slightly off track question: is there any particular name for those one strap back packs?

I know them as "slingshot" bags - Might not be the correct term for them...

Not really, as no one here has anything to sell, just to notify of for sale objects. Correct?

I think it is fine to stay. I don't mind people posting links as long as they remain on topic and under control.

follow up, the birthday sweater finally arrived 2 months after ordering.

the canvas bag shoulder straps are already shot, they sewed the nylon web parts son close to the unmelted edges that they u7nwove and pu7lled loose. it nwi8ll save me the time cutting them off I suppose.

haven't given away the coat yet, so no idea how it wi8ll hold up

Caveat emptor with a capital "C" I suppose.

haven't  had the time to deal with it all, got a nasty infection in my foot (some "super bug" of some sort) and ended up needing it amputated to save my skin. haven't even been home in two months!
