An interesting thing that I ran across:
Ghana's Eco-Friendly Bamboo Bikes

A small workshop in Ghana making bicycles from bamboo. I thought that it has a certain steampunk appeal; maybe the combination of old traditional materials in a fairly modern device. It might fit in in a far-east or Pacific island steampunk setting.

Bamboo is a very versatile material. I think I might plant some clumping bamboo down the back later in the year - no end of clever uses for it, including models for painting china!

Bamboo is termite proof, has an amazing weight to strength ratio. and is more fire resistant than many woods. . Some species can grow almost one inch per hour. It's right up there with hemp when it comes to versatility and sustainability.

I bet you won't get thousands of stoners to buy overpriced bamboo products.
