Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:

It is with a heavy hart that I have to inform you that music legend David Bowie just passed away at age 69, after losing a battle with cancer.

The word pagan came from paganus , who mean peasant . Its was a way to significate than christianism was the religion of the elite and paganism the one of the savage worker class.

''Trickster shows us how we trick OURSELVES. Her rampant curiosity backfires, but, then, something NEW is discovered (though usually not what She expected)! This is where creativity comes from—experiment, do something different, maybe even something forbidden, and voila! A breakthrough occurs! Ha! Ha! We are released! The world is created anew! Do something backwards, break your own traditions, the barrier breaks; destroy the world as you know it, let the new in.''

Among so many things, he played a great Nikola Tesla in The Prestige, for a steampunk connection.

On top of everything else he did, he was a ground-breaker. a trailblazer who showed us we could be something other than the norm, something which I imagine resonates with a lot of people here.

Rest in piece.

Yours,
Miranda.

He had the amazing ability to always keep his work cutting edge. It never got stale. Truly a creative genius, and apparently, he was a really nice guy.
Goodnight, Major Tom, and thank you for everything.
You will be missed.

I have yet to listen to the whole of his last album published just a couple of days ago (good luck on that one; the servers keep crashing  Grin so I won’t give links because of that), but his last album "Blackstar" is really intense. The namesake song of the album a sort of false-prophecy warning against a cross of Messianic / Semitic faiths and a Chtulhu cult. Very dark. Most likely a highly scathing commentary on present day world affairs.

I have had this weird run of famous people dieing a day or two after I thought about them for no reason.

Rickman. Thought about him in Galaxy quest yesterday and wondered what project he was working on.

Bowie. Thought of him the day before he died, and figured he'd outlive his rock contemporaries.

Robert Stigwood. Who thinks of Robert Stigwood these days? Two days before he died I looked up his Wikipedia page.

Natalie Cole. I was at a New Year's Eve dinner at a hotel. Unforgettable, by Nat King Cole, came on the speakers. And I thought, "Natalie Cole is dead", then in my thought I corrected myself; "Nat King Cole is dead; his daughter is still alive". I found out the next day that I had been right the first time.

I don't believe in precognition or any other psychic powers; this is a string of coincidences. Maybe a testament to the number of random thoughts that a person has in a day, making it a certitude that coincidences will happen.

But maybe I will start thinking about bad famous people now.

I'm listening to the most insanely good tribute to David Bowie on KOOP radio in Austin.   All of Bowie's early stuff.

The first song he wrote before he was David Bowie:

And ditto, alas, for Alan Rickman, also 69 and also from cancer.
A beautiful voice and a great actor.

Bollocks to this, 2016 has started off sh*t I mean really sh*t. It's like anyone with any talent went "ok got through Christmas, time to peg it!"
It's depressing. I fully understand that this is the nature of things but it would be nice if this cornucopia of lost talent was peppered with the odd ass hole. You know just so we could all feel a little better about this entire "death" thing.

I've been saying to people lately, that while it's tragic to lose these good people both to cancer so close together, 20,000 people are estimated to die from cancer related causes around the world each day. It's not a jinx or anything, it's just statistics that it would have to happen, and likely happens regularly in more essoterric circles of fame on the regular.

Though I do think that now would be a good time to curb stomp cancer if we could arrange it.

Lets take a time to remember the magic, as i'm one who believe their no better way to give respect to a deceased man than by celebrating his life. :

For anyone interested,  KOOP community/student radio (91.7 MHz FM,  Austin Texas) is holding a David Bowie Marathon Homage across its various regular radio shows and is streaming over the Internet...
