Saw it on Hackaday the other day, reminded me of a much older "Sword in the Stone" style trick done n a similar way (without finger print reader though...). That one relied on the user pulling the sword with exactly the right amount of force, otherwise a double spring load mechanism would switch a sort of electromechanical 'brake' on the sword blade.

Really simple idea, but very effective.   Grin
