I made this last year, and in the period I was working on it, my body shape changed quite a bit (damn medications), and it no longer fit so I cast it aside.

Today in a fit of insomnia, I decided to pick it up again and begin making alterations.  It fits!  The only necessary additions now are cosmetic details.

Outer Fabric: Green silk satin and brocade
Lining: Industrial denim
Boning: Synthetic Whalebone, plastic dress boning, and lumber strapping
Notions: Gold ribbon, frog closure, interfacing in front panels.

The front closure is a zipper rather than a busk, for ease of use and economy.

The back laces up, but still needs a lot of work to look presentable, so no pictures of that yet.

The pattern I created myself from Victorian and Edwardian corset shapes.  Sadly it doesn't lace as tightly as I'd like, I'm going to take it in a few inches.

It wasn't designed to be worn over a shirt, but I didn't think lingerie pictures were appropriate to post here  Wink

Also, the open top with the inset was a happy accident... I originally made the bust too small, but decided I preferred it that way.  So it's not totally authentic.

On to the pictures!

Long shot, blurry but shows the color well:

Forgot to include this in the OP, but everything is hand-sewn.  I didn't have a sewing machine at the time and decided to go the historic route.

Ooh, I quite like the colour!  I'm always in favour of a green/gold combo.  Or blue/gold, for that matter.  Hmm.  Nice work, I'm afraid I'd never undertake something like that by hand!

    Dear JLeigh,

I like the insert in front, it gives your corset an individual style.

The corset is very nice....
(I'm no expert of course)
More importantly...
Did you know you have an alien hiding under your lamp shade....?

Aliens seeking to learn the art of corsetry?  How sneaky.  You'd think they'd just ask!

Thank you for all the compliments!  I feel so flattered.

I just noticed the "alien", and now I keep peeking over my shoulder at him.  My housemate suggests perhaps he's here for Halloween.

     Dear JLeigh,

Your corset has inspired me...maybe I'll do a Victorian corset as my next sewing project after I get through my backlog of 1/2 finished sewing projects.

Greetings, very nice. What do you intend to wear it with... er, if I may be so bold? The cut of your hair suggests, mayhaps, you to be a boiler room engineer. So, loose trousers, fit snug at the top of a boot? No, it is too pretty for that... a skirt?

I've only worn it out once so far before I broke the makeshift laces (I'd been meaning to replace those anyway), and it was with the skirt pictured, olive-green boots, and a military brass-buttoned jacket.

I am more of a trouser person, it will probably be worn with those more often.  Mixing elegance with utility... exactly my style.
