I hope my most recent post clarifies things a bit. Mr. Umbrella is a temporary character and Lilli is remaining with the Boheme.

Wikipedia has been very useful recently (grin). It's been a long time since I read up on Ancient Egyptian deities.

Done a bit of a shove post, to coin the phrase Kabul was the only place that we had to go to before Shenjing, wasn't it? It'll be a shame to see one of the crew leave It is getting a bit crowded though No, we have to hit Lucknow, too... that's the (ostensible) reason for Lakshmi's presence aboard. Don't worry, she's not leaving either Edit: Never mind; I found a way to make it work within the context of the storyline.

I hope Jessica and Emma don't mind my suggesting that they share a cabin. I context of the story, it seemed like a compatible arrangement.

That is fine with me. Now to reread and catch all the stuff I most likely missed the first time.

So we're headed to Kabul, huh? Looks like they have some interesting sports there... (Picture #7: people with delicate sensibilities may find the contents of the link disturbing)

Dear bluestocking,
Yes, there's a reason Lilli doesn't want to leave at Kabul!
PS. Lilli speaks some Mandarin, picked up from a friendship with the son of the Chinese Consul in Paris (where she usually lives). This may come in handy in Shenjing.

Haha, Buzkashi. That made me laugh. Poor goat though. So is it OK to only go to Kabul, even if Lilli doesn't get off, or do we still need to get to Lucknow for Lakshmi's Cunning Plan? My my, this has got rather complicated all of a sudden. Glad to hear that none of the crew are leaving

Dear Ben,
It looks like it is fine to only stop in Kabul, Lakshmi made arrangements to have a contact of Mr. Umbrella's take care of her business in Lucknow.

Indeed; the stop in Lucknow was really only a plot device to get Lakshmi on the ship. The Kabul to Shenjing route is just fine by me (assuming, of course that we don't run afoul of air pirates...).

Jolly good Ah, but air pirates would be fun... It looks like we might end up running into some Russians on the way back.

Dear bluestocking,
I like the character contrast between Lakshmi and Lilli. As I picture Lilli, she runs with the wealthy, rakish demi-monde set, who tend to let their emotions have full play. Aside from when she's "working", when she is very serious, Lilli has tended to be a bit of a loose cannon. (maybe as a reaction to a very repressive school situation). I had guessed from Lakshmi's wardrobe that she was at least quite wealthy.

Dear Vienna, I had actually wondered whether Lakshmi and Lilli might have run into each other before, or at least know each other by reputation. To make it even more interesting, in the last roleplaying game in which I participated, I played a redheaded assassin and votary of Kali - named Lily. I get a little confused sometimes

Dear bluestocking,
Depending on who Lakhsmi turns out to be (and I like the mystery), it is possible they know each other by reputation.

Dear Mr. Faust,
Well, the Boheme hasn't left Cairo yet, and Bucers pub in London is a place to meet up with player characters.

Dear Mercury,
I know this is silly, but I can't help it. Are you expecting armed attack pigeons or just the usual "poop and goop"?

As a former resident of New York city, I can think of few things more terrifying than a flock of armed attack pigeons.

Dear bluestocking,
How about armed attack crows or ravens? They're smarter and they work in groups.

My dear Vienna,
Frightening though that could be, I feel that the sheer collective idiocy of pigeons is part of the terror.
...although, having seen a murder of crows mobbing a hawk, I can absolutely see the potential inherent in a squad of armored corvids putting paid to an airship.
Are we venturing too deep into territory already covered by M. Hitchcock? I suspect Mr. Wells had in mind something much more like the series of spikes or electrified nets spread over tall buildings in urban areas.

Dear bluestocking,
I know Mr. Wells was thinking of more mundane matters of anti-bird tactics; but I seem to be one of the few people where I live that welcomes the local murder of crows in their garden. I enjoy watching them "work" in a group.
Vienna
PS. They are also hilarious when they bathe in the backyard fountain.

Not armed pigeons, just "poop and goop", its just an vague idea for a plot device. My dear Vienna,
I suspect Mr. Wells had in mind something much more like the series of spikes or electrified nets spread over tall buildings in urban areas.
Bluestocking
Yes that's the idea I was thinking of.
