Ms. Fahrmann,
I currently live in Savannah Georgia, attending the College of Art and Design. In my class I am creating a beautiful brocade vest, black with silver roses, and have yet to find silver buttons appropriate, preferably with 2 or four holes for sewing pressed against the cloth and with a Victorian flair. The craft stores have left me disappointed.

Disappointed but hopeful,
Jason

Boston's Windsor Button might be a source if you are willing to mail-order:

I will say, when i lived in Boston, they had the most apathetic salespeople, occasionally veering into rudeness--however, that's i suppose the advantage of net commerce. You wouldn't have to deal with them in person. Smiley

    Dear jarod20,

There are a number of button source listed on www.gbacg.org.  On the home page, look for "Shop Online" in the "Resources" section, go to shop online, then either scroll down (the listings are alphabetical by item) or hit "Buttons".  I hope this helps.

Although completely cheesy...I've found a lot of neat buttons at Wal-Mart and Hancocks in the La Mode Vintage line.  They have various designs and styles that are supposedly from a certain year or decade.  They do have a really nice weight to them.  I found an online shop that has them:

Also, here is a site that I always find helpful for anything: http://www.costumersguide.com/costume_research.shtml
I've noticed that a few times when they couldn't find exact buttons, they would take the plastic black ones you find at Wal-mart and use a paint pen to change their look.  Probably not the most pertinent information at the moment but it might come in handy.

There were a few I liked but not the right color, a paint pen might be a quick solution as I have but a week to finish it

I've used metallic nail polish to change button colours.
