Ladies and Gentlemen of the Forum,

I have been considering bookplates lately. I am a confessed bibliophile and have a great number of books strewn about my home. I have always thought bookplates were interesting and wanted some of my own. Do you have bookplates? Did you buy them, make them (any printmakers here), were you given them? Have you had them printed specifically for yourself or a loved one? Are they steamy? Discuss and post pictures if you have them. Oh, and be nice, this is my first thread.

I don't have any bookplates, but you got me googling...

I very much like the World Map deisgn on this page, but I think we can get steamier.

I do, in fact, have bookplates.  They were a gift, and featured a black cat (as my cat is black as well) and had gum on the back for affixing them to the endpapers.  I'm afraid I haven't yet used them, as I wasn't entirely sure putting anything sticky in a book wasn't gross misconduct.  Silly, I know.

Of course, I'm equally guilty of giving away books, and it would look a bit odd if the name plate still had my name when I did so (it can be a bit tricky to get them off once you've stuck them in).

Cheers!

The only bookplate I have is designed to look like a travel pass to Dinotopia (my first book love when I was tiny) that I got from the never-actually-established Dinotopia Fanclub (that my dad signed me up for as a surprise but they never got enough support and so sent me an apology letter etc) and signed by the author in gold ink. I never put it any of the books but it still delights me (especially the fine print about return not guarenteed).

I am quite fond of these in lieu of bookplates.

M. Difference Engineer,

Those are cool, one could equip their entire personal library with "stolen" library books. Some "borrowed" from Miskatonic, some from the "Imperial Libraries of Mars" and of course a few rare tomes from the Margravine's Library at Anchorage. I started this thread while considering having bookplates printed, now maybe I will have to consider other options. Thanks,

Professor Morphous:

Certain stacks of university libraries are notoriously lax in tracking down those who borrow texts for extended periods of time, but so long as the fines are paid in due course and the texts are returned, they seem not to mind overmuch.

Some texts in one's library could also be rescues from Alexandria, shortly before the building was regrettably destroyed.
